The Premierleague have taken steps to distance themselves from the recent accusations of lavish payments of £90M being made to all member clubs by publishing the TV and prize money distributions for the 2011/12 season on their official website. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/broadcast-payments-to-premier-league-clubs.html As can be seen from the figures, relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers received the smallest amount, just under £39.1M, and they will be relieved to know that they will receive around £48M in parachute payments over the next 4 years. ------------------------------------------ Now on the subject of parachute payments. It was reported that the breakdown of the £48M is two years at £16M, and then two years at £8M, and this replaced the previous system of clubs receiving £12M for two seasons with us being in the first set of clubs to receive them at that level. I'd now like to draw your attention to that section of the table. Birmingham, Blackpool, and West Ham received £15.5M, which is in line with that. But we only received about £12M, along with Burnley and Portsmouth, so it's not due to us having mortgaged our payments and it appears we were actually relegated under the old 2 years at £12M thing (I wonder if that accounts for £20M of the extra the Allams found during due diligence). I'm completely baffled by M'boro receiving £4M though, that doesn't seem to fit in with either of the systems.
It seems odd, AP mentioned the increased payments on several occasions, maybe the amounts shown just don't take into account monies paid in the last financial year, as I'm pretty sure the we and Portsmouth were helped out with early payments and Burnley were probably brought in line with that too.
It has always been reported that we were going to receive the higher amount. Unfortunately I haven't yet found the same article from last year to see what we were given then. I'll have to look out for it next year. It's strange that Tickler hasn't commented on this thread.
