Swansea have agreed a £2 million fee with Premier League rivals Blackburn for Republic of Ireland international midfield goal-getter Keith Andrews. He will begin a new chapter of his career at the Liberty Stadium when the transfer window opens in January. The 30-year-old Andrews has been on loan at Ipswich since mid-August, where he has scored eight goals. Two of those goals came in Saturday's spectacular 5-3 Championship win at Barnsley. Ipswich boss Paul Jewell wants to keep Andrews, but the Portman Road club cannot compete with the offer from the top flight Swans.
Really?! Where's this come from? I was thinking the other day how he's the type of player we seem to target, but didn't expect this! If I'm honest, the price-tag makes me think it's not concrete...surely we wouldn't pay 2mil for him?!
£2 m for a player who aint in the first team at Blackburn(who are bottom 3) on loan to a team that was bottom 4 of the NPC, Blackburn are really desperate for money as the banks are going to stop their overdraft next month, and we come along with £2m quid !! in the papers they were talking about junior hoilett going for that price!! offer them 500K and see what happens
Done a bit of digging and it seems there might be something in this. However, it looks likely to be a free if it happens. Keith Andrews has gone on record saying he doesn't want to go back to Blackburn, and you'd imagine he'd pick playing for a PL team with less wages, than playing for Ipswich on more? Better for his international prospects... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/...rovers-steve-kean-keith-andrews?newsfeed=true
Not sure about this one to be honest, I would have thought we'd go in for a more dynamic player than injury prone Andrews, and younger too, and there's no way Huw Jenkins would wast 2 million on this guy, hope it's not true, besides we don't need another defensive midfielder! Not sure what Rodgers is up to with this, Goosen yes!.................. please log in to view this image
paid 3.5 for a champ striker, why not 2 for a prem DM and before u cut me down, yes he is on loan to a CL side, so the glass is half full
It is understood any deal is unlikely to involve a transfer fee, with struggling Rovers keen to off-load out-of-favour Andrews, who is on big wages at Ewood Park. Not sure what the top wage at Blackburn would be tho??
Andrews reported to be on about £25k. Seems expensive to me and an example of "lesser" players being paid far in excess of their worth because of the salaries the top players command. He, and other players of similar ability, would argue that if Rooney and others are earning £200k a week then £25k is reasonable. In that context he might have a point but, imo, it is still far too much for a run of the mill average player. He is not a young gun and, whilst he would no doubt stiffen our midfield and add the odd goal, I believe that it would be madness to pay the reported £2 million even if we could contemplate his wages. He could probably do a decent squad job but, for me, as Blackburn want him away, I would offer a token fee and wages well within our structure - or no deal! I would far sooner we kept our money for the likes of Goosens who is young, looks quality and would probably have decent sell on value if he clicked with us.
We'll I'd put more trust in what Brendan Rodgers thinks, a bloke who took his team up against all the odds within 12 months, as opposed to a twat from Cardiff, wouldn't you?
Bit abrasive, No 10. Swamp was only offering a reasonable comment which I thought was not too far off the mark. I thought we were looking for better than this although he probably could do a job.
If were going to take a chance on a 30 year old , Alexander Hleb is available ... an absolute brilliant player . Might be a bit of a chance on his injury probs but if he stayed healthy for a few years what a capture he would be .
P.S. I really like Swamp as a moderator for the Bluebirds ... He can't be as nasty as he used to be .A kinder , gentler quagmire Lol !!
lets look at the facts, he was at a league 1 club, then he goes to blackburn, doesnt pull up any trees, now he's found his level at the 20th placed team in the championship... good luck to you if you believe he can take your club forwards! even a thicko like you should be able to understand that signing players who arent good enough to play in the premiership wont be good signings!
Ya gotta understand that's it's going to be a bit difficult for Swan fans to except any kind of advise from a Cardiff fan given how far we got with our minor transfers over time in our rise from League 1 to how far Cardiff didn't get with there Bellamys , Bothroyds & Chopras . Even Malky's proving ambition isn't just big money , it's just as important in how players are treated & schooled .
I can see swamps point to be honest cant hack it in the premiership and doing ok in the bottom half of the championship.. I think there's a lot more for 2 mil out there , but BR hasn't let us down yet , lets hope he's right this time and lets not forget ,nothing official yet and its not January so anything can happen
exactly, that twat on this thread should look at the top of this website, comment, debate, create, freely. if he had it his own way there would be no banter, no sharing of opinions, crap basically. to bongo, cracker etc, good debating with you
