EXCLUSIVE: Hughes gets private backing from Fernandes to turn hapless QPR round

..Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has ruled out a move for Harry Redknapp after giving private backing to current manager Mark Hughes.
Former Tottenham and West Ham boss Redknapp is looking for a route back into the Barclays Premier League after leaving White Hart Lane in the summer and has been linked to the QPR job in recent days.

But Sportsmail understands Fernandes continues to have faith in 48-year-old Hughes to turn round a poor start to the season which sees the west London club stuck at the bottom of the league with just two points from seven games.

Backed: Mark Hughes has received the private backing from Tony Fernandes

Fernandes has told friends that he believes Hughes will bring success to Loftus Road in the long term and that Redknapp would not be on his list of candidates even if he did find himself looking for a new manager at some stage.

Part of Hughes' attraction to Fernandes is his record of taking modest clubs such as Blackburn Rovers and Fulham into the top 10 and to the verge of the European places.
Fernandes believes that building clubs up gradually in this way is not Redknapp's forte, and he also has concerns that, at 65, Redknapp is too old.

Pressure has built on Hughes in recent weeks after a summer of heavy recruitment failed to produce immediate results.

Last weekend's 3-2 defeat at West Bromwich was Rangers' third successive loss.
However, Fernandes is known to be understanding of a lengthy injury list that has left Hughes short of quality in defence and is not yet in the mood to panic.
On Friday QPR defender Clint Hill also gave his backing to Hughes, who arrived midway through last season and managed to keep the club in the Premier League on the last day of the campaign.

Not again: Queens Park Rangers lost 3-2 against West Bromwich last week

Bad return: Hughes' side have just two points from seven games
Hill said: 'The gaffer's confident he can turn things around - he wouldn't be here if he wasn't.

'He's still got the full support of all the boys. We're fully behind him and the staff.
'If you have three or four bad results, people from outside the club start writing things and pointing fingers.
'If you look at the Tottenham manager three or four weeks ago, everyone was saying he was a bad manager.

'All of a sudden he gets a few results and nothing is said.'

QPR face Everton at home next Sunday when the domestic programme resumes but Hughes has learned that on-loan Manchester United full back Fabio da Silva's hamstring injury will keep him out for another five weeks

Or, in other words, useless Fail hack tries to cover his back as he realizes Hughes will not be sacked and Arry will be spending the autumn walking his accountant.

To be honest everything that can be said for/against Hughes has been done to death on here

It will be the everton & arsenal results that make or break Hughes

Let's just hope and pray we get a result against the toffees

So all this happened "in private". Good to know that The Daily Mail are privy to private meetings. Was it phone hacking, room bugging or examination of subsequent emails that gave Mr Ladyman his story?

Ooops. Sorry. Forgot to mention "imagination" in the list above.

So private that everyone now knows about it.

Presumably the private meeting carries more clout than all the public backing TF has given Hughes?

Spending money with nothing to show for it? I'm nominating Hughes for the Nobel Peace prize. Well, if the EU's good enough for it...

I know its the fail but the words about Arry are good, he is too old and is a walking disaster behind the scenes.

Should this be referred to the Leveson enquiry or submitted as a late entry for the Mann Booker prize for fiction?
