After a shedload of work, the new Pompey Ladies's website (which I'm joint admin of) is now live! It's far better than the old one and has lots of stats and player profile pictures for almost the entire first team and most of the reserve team (including Lucy 'The Mighty' Quinn). Take a look, it's taken a while to update everything but I think it looks alright! There's still some stuff to do, mostly match reports and then start updating the stats from previous seasons, but it's mostly good to go! Hope you like it! http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/portsmouthladiesfc/ If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
good job.......being involved in building a new web site for one of my companies I can appreciate how much work has gone into that .......top draw
Thanks guys! Glad you like it! Yeah it has been quite a bit of hard work, especially getting all the stats updated and so on and writing some of the match reports (have permission to use those from Express FM and the News, but for games where there aren't match reports from either, I've had to write them based on whatever info I can find on the web), but everyone likes stats so it's all good! More exciting news, Pompey are playing Colombia State University in a friendly next week. Add a bit of American glitz and glamour!
Suggestion: spend the few dollars to get the domain for portsmouthladiesfc.com or portsmouthladiesfc.co.uk. The costs are pretty minimal (especially if the team will cover them, and we're talking pocket change), and the difference in credibility is significant.
Personally, I completely 100% agree with you and would definitely be in favour of that. Would need to find out how much it costs first though then see if I can rope the club into it.
Oh, I thought this thread would be about Pompey securing League football next season. Obviously this wasn't exciting enough to deserve its own thread! Well done anyway!
When this thread was started, it looked like we were going out of the League. But no longer WE ARE STAYING UP! Boy I enjoyed chanting that on Saturday
Well done on the site, very nice. Domain names can be as little as £2-£3 a year, it depends what you want from them, I paid £7.00 a year for the one I had, which gave a few additional bells and whistles. It's definitely worth doing, just make sure you go through a reputable vendor. I have used 123-reg and Go Daddy before now.
Disappointingly when Catlin's Anniversary Report was published on the PST website it didn't contain a single word about the Portsmouth Ladies Team - at the very least I would have thought he should have mentioned the game they played at Fratton. http://www.pompeytrust.com/news/ceo-anniversary-report-to-the-pst
I'll discuss the domain on Sunday hopefully. And 3rd eye, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I honestly feel that club doesn't do nearly enough to promote the women's team. Basically all they do is announce their fixtures at half time (when 80% of people aren't even paying attention to the announcements) and have their fixtures appear on the scoreboard pre-match, albeit that's more than in the past. There's also probably a page or two in the back of the programme dedicated to them. However, they could do so much more via social media, their website and the weekly newsletter. Sure they post news of a result on social media and on the website but it's never in ADVANCE of a match. Always after, never before. So someone might read about a result that took place but may have had no idea before hand that this match was due to take place. And it's like they have done nothing to promote this match. It's frustrating. The Pompey Ladies Facebook page has about 650 likes, which is good considering how much it's grown recently but I can plug and plug and it'll be seen by a few hundred people, maybe a thousand if a post is particularly popular. Meanwhile the Portsmouth FC official Facebook page has about 49,000! Just one post on there promoting a game would be a huge boost to the amount of people finding out about the match. It's not too hard and doesn't take too long. Likewise, Pompey FC never seem to do Twitter updates of Pompey Ladies' match, only ever having done it once when we played Tottenham at Fratton Park. Yet Brighton FC do every match. So if Brighton can, why can't we?!
To be honest Lapras I don't think the club will even give much thought to the Ladies team until the demand is there from supporters. I dropped an email to Mark Catlin saying that his annual review could and should have mentioned them. Not expecting a reply, unless the accusation that sexism is still rife in the community club hits a nerve. The Ladies team does have a section in the News section and on the Fixtures list on the OS - but I think the club are missing a trick here - they're concerned about attracting younger generations as fans, but seem to not understand the demographics. Parents have to trust any institution they let their kids go to. There is a high proportion of single parents in this country, the majority of those are single mothers - until you get their trust they aren't going to encourage or allow their kids to go off to Fratton Park. Promoting the Ladies team could go a long way to breaking down those barriers. It's a Community Club now Lapras - don't hesitate to make your views known to the PCFC board, the PST and the club's CEO.
That is a very good point 3rd, the club should try and promote the Ladies' team anywhere they can. Get young girls, as well as boys interested in football, by taking the Ladies around schools etc; and we'll see more supporters going to watch them and the Men's team too.
Lapras......agree with your comments re the ladies not being mentioned enough or even supported enough by the club, the only thing i would point out is that the girlies, as far as I know, did not feature in the PST take over projected budgets, the club has to operate on tight stringent reigns........BUT, it would do you no harm in approaching Mica Hall.......... he is very approachable on all matters PFC and this would be his domain In all, I am pretty sure being we are a community club that the higher percentage of fratton regulars are in favour of a higher level of support for the ladies from the club
Here you go Lapras - actually I was surprised by the speed of the reply. Pity he didn't say he would rectify it though, but it's worth dropping a line to the club these days.
