Sums then up nicely. I feel a bit sorry for the old time ManU fans. All these glory hunters today along with the knowledge that most of their success is because of refs. No satisfaction for them.
Agree, have a lot of time for the old school Man U but not the legions of gloryhunters they've inherited today.
i have always said that the fa might as well just give the title to united at the start of the season, they can then just play non pressure exhibition football that will keep all their sad fans happy, whilst the rest of the clubs fight for 2nd place (the real top spot)
They're not asking for anything more than UEFA are trying to put in place, they just want to make sure it's adhered to by having a less corrupt organisation in charge.
FA are motivated purely by money. History has taught us they only care about the status quo so why would that change? When Liverpool were 24 hours away from administration and almost folding the FA bent over backwards to prevent it happening meanwhile Darlington, Chester and others have been allowed to fold. I'm not sure why FFP would be any different, it isn't being done to prevent a new Pompey/Leeds it's being done to prevent another Chelsea/City and keep the same teams at the top. The whole PL initiative was set up to favour the commercially bigger clubs like Man U and allow them to compete with Europe's elite and generate more interest/money for this super league, FFP is no different. The fact is the Premier League moneyball needs a strong Man U, the day Man U slip to 4th or lower will be the day the bubble bursts and with the Glazers there and Fergies retirement on the horizon those days are not too far away. When the PL was first set up Man U were so far ahead of the rest and the likes of Chelsea/Blackburn/Leeds went out on a limb to catchup, well now the conditions suit Chelsea, City, QPR and co and they want to change the rules. You can't have it both ways, you can't be vehemently pro-neoliberalism and pro-FFP. The whole system is corrupt.
Spot on ! Saffa , the pot calling the kettle black! He seems to have a short memory about his own spending record!
Excellent read and so, so true, the glory hunters you speak of will no doubt soon be on here remonstrating how innocent they are and how they invented football
There are always ways around a silly idea like FFP What is to stop Roman Abramovich going online and buying 5 million Chelsea shirts, at 40 quid a pop, that raises Chelsea 200m Are the big wigs going to top free will to purchase what they want, highly unlikely
one of the worst articles ever written. Sums up those in agreement and its of no surprise certain chelsea fans are nowhere to be seen, they dont want to be involved with idiots like yourself DL
Wow, we came top last year? Awesome Because all that would do would be to raise Adidas £200m? Economics 101 - Adidas pay Chelsea to let them make their shirts, Adidas make the profit from selling those shirts. Still, I'm sure it'd be good for the US economy
