Assuming Cellino wants to have a rattle at promotion next season, a big assumption I know, regardless of whether he makes millions available or not, it will be a colossal job to attract real quality to the club. As usual, much of our income is due to be absorbed by non footballing matters, gfh and pending court cases so it's safe to assume, we won't be remotely near the top payers oy wages in the Championship, in fact clubs like Villa, Newcastle and several others will be paying players multiples of our wages. It won't be money that'll be the attraction. Unfortunately, like it or not, we're no longer seen as a big club only by players in divisions below us, there are many in their early twenties that would have to resort to YouTube for a reminder that we once were a PL club.. The reputation of our owner and constant turnover of coaches also won't help either. Add to that, considerable numbers of fans who seem to positively enjoy tearing players to pieces on social media. I regularly read posters hoping for multi million pound strikers in the summer and top centre halves. Surely, such players are most likely to go elsewhere if there is any alternative, that's if we're trying to sign them in the first place
I don't think it is the money that would prevent us signing anyone who might make a difference, I think it is the joke way we are being run. Look at Joey Barton - No idea what his wages are but his reply to suggestions that he could of signed for us sums it up really. Joey Barton says he could not justify joining Leeds United while the ‘nonsense’ surrounding Massimo Cellino’s ownership of the Yorkshire club continues. Edit - 50p a week http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.u...ve_signed_for_Burnley_for_50_pence_a_week___/
Eire. Possibly but we do have the chance of attracting big crowds. Surely the start of that is to buy quality players the supporters would be excited to see. Larger match day support, increased sales of beer etc on the day, more replica shirt sales might be enough to pay more in wages. And if it means a promotion challenge ER might get back to near full. Maybe a bit simplistic but needs a bit of ambition. or maybe I'm dreaming and should join sniffer on the deluded thread
Its all about money, if we were top of the Prem and trying to sign a player and pub league outfit Millwall offered him more money the greedy bastard would go there the sad fact is, most players are mercenaries nowadays
In the riddle era we could attract quality but mainly because of the daft inflated wages we were offering. It's all down to finances now and Cellino doesn't have the infinite wealth that the job will require. That's not a criticism of the man, but a fact.
Eire, very true but we don't have to pay all the players big money, but if we can bring two or three real quality, the increase in revenue may allow us to pay them 15-20k a week. If not and we are trying to buy players that can step up, then Cellino needs to invest in a proper scouting network and a proper football manager with an eye for a player.
