Jason Brown has indicated he'd consider a return to Priestfield. http://gills365.co.uk/former-hero-brown-issues-come-and-get-me-plea Would be a perfect answer for one positional problem we have. What do you think???? UTG
Would love it if he come back, but I have to say I am not getting my hopes up, he may want to come back but his wage will be the stumbling block but he is worth the high wage as he is a great stopper, above this level I have to say.
Must say I totally agree with HOADIE_BOI. Very talented keeper and obviously enjoyed his time at the club. But his wages must've been pretty good even as a Premiership back-up keeper. And definitely above this level, kind of shown by the club who took him on loan.
Bet we don't sign him, But scally could put the money in and maybe say 5,000 a week at the most as that would be fair as he is worth it.
This is the type of signing we need to try and generate more income via extra season ticket sales... I personally know of 4 people who are currently not renewing of because of lack of ambition...
Can't see it happening. His wages would be about 5 times the next highest earner! Which is bad for team moral, as well as the fact we can't afford it!
I wouldn't want to see us throwing our finances at one player (Goalkeeper), if Jason Brown is really calling for us to come and get him, he must know the deal so why would he want to take a huge pay cut, if the figures being suggested are true. Although maybe he is prepared to take a huge cut for the team he loves, so at least he will get some football - yeah right!! Contrary to some I do not believe in deciding what league games I watch or whether a season ticket should be renewed, based on who's in the team for the coming season.
Agree a signing like him would make me turn up to a few more games not being a season ticket holder myself anymore. It's rumours like this and interaction from the player himself that create a buzz. I've noticed a bit less moaning and more optimism from fellow fans lately.
Yeah I will just sit back, I can wait for signings, not as if we have a game in two weeks, Friendlies I know but they don't matter, If we wait a bit longer we may get better players than if we just went and got them now.
This is my 4,500 post and there will be many more, Just on another note look at this. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/20062011/63/latics-talks-strike-duo.html Here is a run down on it. Oldham boss Paul Dickov has held talks with strikers Cody McDonald and Clayton Donaldson. The two players are among the best goal scorers in the lower divisions. McDonald hit the headlines by scoring 26 goals for Gillingham last season during a loan spell from Norwich, while Donaldson finished as the top scorer in League Two with 29 strikes for Crewe. "I am not stupid and realise that goalscorers of their calibre will attract a lot of interest," Dickov told the club`s official website. "But I have spoken to both players, and there are a lot of clubs in for them. "If it is purely down to money, then they are not my type of player. I want footballers who will buy into what we are trying to achieve here."
12 days to go before the start of the friendlies. Is anyone concerned with the total lack of activity at the club? How many players have now left the club? 11? How many new signings there been? None? My case rests.
noone seems to have pointed out the fact that its quoted that they reckon hawkes is good enough to be the back up goal keeper so maybe if we combine the wages we all thought we would use on 2 goalkeepers then we may have enough to sign him!! although it does also mean he cannot get injured during the season at all
I was going to do a thread on this topic but you've saved me the trouble. Yes, I am concerned as you have stated with the total lack of activity, read through the League Two news and you see club after club strengthening their squads. What point are the friendlies to help new players settle in, if we haven't got any! IMO we haven't learnt any lessons yet again, the silence from Priestfield is deafening.
Whilst I would be delighted to see him back at the club, I dont think we can afford to spend too much of our budget on a goalkeeper who has barely played a competetive match since he left us, I think that there are free transfer goalkeepers available who will command smaller wages and who have more recent experience of playing week in week out.
