Ex Leeds star Sam Sodje and his brother Stephen have been held by police investigating football corruption The arrests came after Sodje, 34, was filmed claiming he could arrange for players to pick up yellow cards in exchange for cash. Nigeria-born Sodje demanded £30,000 for a booking and £50,000 for a player to get a red card during a match. He even claimed he punched a player in the groin during a match to be deliberately sent off - and pick up a £70,000 bung. The central defender for played eight games for us on loan in 2009 when we were scrabling to get back into the Championship also boasted that he could rig Premier League and World Cup games. He said some African players could be easily tempted because they do not get paid much to represent their national teams. The brothers were arrested by detectives from the National Crime Agency at their homes in Abbeywood, south London. Cops were seen carrying away evidence, including a desktop computer, from Stephen’s £120,000 home. Oldham Athletic star Cristian Montano, 21, was also filmed discussing match-fixing in the sting. He was caught on tape apologising for failing to pick up a booking for cash during a game. Sodje told an undercover investigator that he had “sorted” one former Premier League player to deliberately pick up a booking. He said the star, who cannot be named, received £30,000 in exchange for the yellow card during a Championship match. “This guy came to meet me at my house and it was sorted,” boasted the former Nigeria international. “That’s how easy it is - it’s nothing. The booking one is easy. You just push someone, swear at the referee, kick the ball away. Its not just the club you represent which is a massive honour, its the sport itself. I find it hard to comprehend how a professional player can act in this way. Many of you guys have probably played sport at either league level or semi professionally. I could not imagine myself helping to influence a result by getting either myself or a fellow professional booked or sent off. If you found out that a current Leeds Utd player had taken a sum of money in exchange for deliberately getting booked or sent off, would you want him to represent your club again?
Played 8(eight) times for us,hardly a 'star' You can take a man out of nigeria but you can't ............
A little bit of sensationalism there... What about the last bit I've just added If you found out that a current Leeds Utd player had taken a sum of money in exchange for deliberately getting booked or sent off, would you want him to represent your club again?
No,he's a complete ****,I don't care if they scew the bookies, but honest fans paying to see games shouldn't be treated like that. Not as if he wasn't on a decent wage either.
He said some African players could be easily tempted because they do not get paid much to represent their national teams. Like I said above they get paid loads by their respective clubs compared to an average wage. Utter bollocks, what he says, hope the fecker goes down.
If a Leeds player did this, I would expect him to flee for fear of his life. Play for us again? Only if we were feeding him to the lions (Roman style, not nilwall style. Then again, that might be more fun!).
I would never want a hookie player to play for Leeds again. I get the feeling there might be many more caught up in this hookie stuff that will come out in coming weeks. Also on a similar note, I'm still curious why so many of our players ended up at Norwich. More cash changed hands I'll bet
It will certainly be an interesting couple of weeks with further names certain to come to light. Not related but Chopra (who has a betting problem) was telling how when he was at Newcastle on the team coach, they would bet tens of thousands a week. I'd love to know the ins and outs of the Norwich signings. Each time we came out worse, even with the Becchio swap deal
I don't care if players have abetting problem,if they want to chuck cash away their problem. But when it come to players getting cards, chucking matches etc, then it does worry me. Because we all suffer at the hands of some bent greedy bastards,FFS they get paid enough.
No laughing matter, no proof, it never happened. Plenty of proof we were victims of it though. Waccoe
No proof - only the allegations made by your own keeper Gary Sprake, 3 Wolves players, Jim Barron - the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, Sunderland manager Bob Stokoe, and the 300 page dossier the FA had - all lies I tell thee - but to what purpose?
And the evidence was sooooo strong that anyone with anything to do with Leeds was thrown into prison. For ever. Do you really believe that nonsense? If indeed there really was usable evidence, why would they hold it back against a team that 'everyone' hated? Get real. There also the civil court case won by a certain Mr Bremner which netted him a tidy sum against someone who had all this wonderful 'evidence' at his disposal. It was ignored, and given that a civil court has a lower level of evidence required, this put all this nonsense to bed once & for all. Unless you're a wally, of course!
