Well i must admit i was a little disappointed at our Evesham performance, its a game we should have won quite easily but made very hard work out of it as i think we had only one real chance on goal when we hit the crossbar, looks like Marvin has gone back even further in his progress at the club as he missed three golden sitters in a game that we had at least 70% of the play, and Gornell missed an absolute sitter too, its all well and good for GT to say we are a passing side but it would help if we passed it to OUR players a bit more. The good points was that Bradders looked on excellent form when he came on and was very lively. but at the end of the day we could have lost it to Jacobson who made a dreadfully sloppy back to Anyon but their striker made a right hash of it...in my view we really need a good quality striker who can put pressure on defenses as we failed do any of that in the game, and more passing forward to our stikers(excluding Morgan) instead of sideways and loosing it ... I'm still to be convinced that this team is better than last year.we should have kept a large majority of last seasons players and built around them!

I take it you went, it is early days and let's hope that the pre-season does what it is supposed to - gel the team and allow them to play good football.

Interesting to see that Goldson was captain rather than Jones, perhaps suggesting Hazell may lead the side. Or maybe even young Connor himself...

its early days yet, but pleased that bradders showed promise up front. sounds as though it was pancake day for our usual lemons up front. let us hope we score a few against brum, wolves etc otherwise pre season will have been a mega pancake season for our usual "strikers" up front, or are we already missing jc.

2 good strikers please gt, someone in L2 or the bsl must need programme sellers. a job for our marv and el tel. no i take it all back they will be great by 18.8.12 OR ELSE!!

2 strikers? No chance. I don't actually think we're signing a striker and I maintain that it's not the most pressing area in the team.

Parry can play as a forward, so we have five sort of on the books. Parry scored a few from lb last season.

Sorry Lenny but Marvin was a waste of space, he ain't going to cut it in this league thats for sure, and GT will move him on soon , as i viewed it, our strikers weren't mobile enough and not running into space, our midfield would hold the ball for so long then loose it, the inter passing in midfield was good at time's but nothing to aim for up front...where normally Jacobson would pump the ball forward he tried a stupid back pass and nearly cost us a goal because he was getting frustrated with his options, we need to improve drastically if we are going to try and get something out of our next tough three friendly's thats for sure.

I thought Asa hall looked promising and so did Ryan Woods when he came on. Thought we passed the ball around well but dissapointed by the lack of shots at goal. Typical pre-season game but hope for a big improvement on Tuesday against Birmingham. Joe Anyon was very vocal in goal. Paul Parry looked like a good candidate for captain.

Morgan is absolutely rapid, surely if a lack of mobility is an issue Morgan isn't the person to criticise. He is an excellent dribbler, works hard and makes things happen. He is erratic and cannot finish for ****, but people rate him lower than they did at the start of last season because after a blistering start they got the idea he's some kind of prolific goal machine. I expect he'll start as back-up, on the bench for the majority of the season and I agree that he'll probably be gone when his contract expires if we stay up, but he is exactly the kind of player we want on the bench.

My point was really that our strike force is being made out to be terrible when it is most definitely not. Gornell is an excellent player, and, whilst I did and always have rated Collins, I feel he's being incredibly overrated by some of our fans (like all who left, really) and the gap between him and Gornell is minimal for me. People complain about our lack of a "20 goal a season striker", yet I would be amazed if Collins hits 15 league goals this season. As I have said on numerous occasions, I rate Gornell highly and expect him to flourish, and the supporting cast of Bradshaw and Morgan have enough about them to contribute. I know little about Doble, but I trust Turner's judgement with these kind of signings.

I don't follow the theory some seem to believe that we'll be playing 4-5-1 this season. I think we could see it utilised on occasions, but I would expect the standard 4-4-2 to remain the default formation. We have a goalscoring winger in Wright, goals from the middle with Hall and a solid defence.

I also can't see how people claim a striker is the main priority when you look at the defence. Another Grandison type player is needed, someone capable of playing full back and centre back to fill in the gaps and be our first choice, because I have reservations over Jones and I really doubt Hazell will be a patch on his old self after such a nasty injury.

Strikers were the main problem last season never mind this. I lost count of the games we struggled to win because of our failure to take chances or even the games we lost by the odd goal. I rate Morgan and Gornell but neither is going to be a prolific goal scorer.

We do still need a proper defender and not a filler-in.

PS. We will still live to regret allowing Ainsworth to go for whatever reason

A terrier of a striker ready to pounce and poach any goal opportunity available? Parry's YouTube footage showed he could do that at Cardiff and Taylor could be positioned to do that, but I think turner has perhaps Parry, Hall and Summerfield in mind for a player sat in a 4-4-1-1 role if Morgan doesn't perform.

I'm not saying that personally I wouldn't like a striker, but I think it's going to be extremely challenging to find a top striker who will hit 20 goals to come to us when we need to add to our somewhat threadbare defence.

<ok> a big f-off central defender and a defensive midfielder willing to track back to defence.

well if our strikers look lost at Evesham, god help them in league 2, and to be fair our defense didn't look too bad and well organised, but there again it was only Evesham, but the big test will be on Tuesday to see if we are progressing or going backwards. you watch Marvin get a hat trick.....<whistle>

surely a freudian slip, tinned hats, surely you meant league 1, or did i dream last season.

yes we have 5 strikers of sorts but is any one of them capable of 10 goals this season let alone 20. come on bradders show them how its done. i suspect our young welsh international twinkle toes may impress gt and the rest of us this season. i have a dream.

tuesday will be our first big test for our defence and gk. and hopefully those up front may get an element of service from behind. i go for 2-1 to shrews assuming it is not shrove tuesday up front!.

may i finally say it is a real pleasure to be discussing players and football and not that ruddy awful badge so often mentioned and done to death elsewhere. and all will know my views on lions, badges and clipart.

i still think we need a good loanee up front if things do not improve in our other pre season trials. prove me wrong shrews and especially twinkle toes!

floreat salopia amwythig am byth. as an aside i would love to know what shrew's baleful prediction for the shrews plight in league 1. i think we should be told!. i am off to stoke up the gas and leeds utd!

You didn't stoke us very much, did you AJ?

So, after 15 years in L2, do I detect a short and painful stay in L1 on the cards?

PNE lost 2-0 to Morecombe this weekend, so perhaps they might be play mates for you lot next season if you manage to stay up ;)

Who gives a s**t what happens in a pre-season friendly? Very rarely do they ever mirror what happens during the season.

yes but let us not forget gt's first season and in the pre season shrews reached the final of the joma cup in n. devon, only to pull out as the other finalists blackpool were habitually broke the rules. that was some start to a season ruined by a myopic linesman. come on you shrews, sort they brummies out. floreat salopia
