But he says youve never come as close. 2009 is as close and he certainly believed he was going to win it.

He even attacked a camera, sexually

Steven Gerrard has backed himself and Liverpool to bounce back from their end-of-season heartbreak last spring and mount a serious title challenge once again. Liverpool led the Premier League by five points with three games to go in April, but a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Anfield – in which Gerrard slipped to gift Demba Ba the opening goal – saw them pipped to the title by Manchester City.

I think what every reporter/Liverpool loving media peeps seems to have forgotten/missed, is that Stevie Me miscontrolled/missed the ball. He only slipped trying to recover from his mistake. A slip can happen.....and be costly. It's more of a worry if someone's control or awareness fades. Not saying it's happened yet, but that would be what I look at. He used to be able to rescue his team from "certain death", not anymore I say.

Nope, just stating youve been close before. Hes just rewriting history so it doesnt look like he failed twice.

Its a bad day for gerrard interviews. Hes got 2 out and both are hilarious.

The fact that his song has been re-worded and will no doubt be blasted out at away grounds all over the country this season, will ensure it stays at the forefront of his mind <laugh>

Still hurts but he's forgiven, we go again. Ffs! We start again or play again. :D

If it had been any other player he'd have been burnt at the stake. It'll be a source of joy for opposition fans but **** it, it's done now we're playing well so lets see what happens next.

he has a history of dropping clangers at key moments in big games. Back passes, slips, flick ons to the opposition, own goals. Suggests that he buckles under pressure.

Nah look at the goals he's scored in pressure games. You're just picking on the mistakes that every player makes. Unfortunately that slip was a really bad mistake or the control leading up to it was.

Aye I can think of 4 right off the top of my head.

Own goal in the Carling cup Final V Chelsea in 05
Back pass to Drogba in 2010 to win us the league
Slip against Demba Ba to lose them the league in 14
Back pass to Suarez for England in WC 2014

3 of them against Chelsea too <ok> Probably a few more in games I haven't seen.

Like Gonzo says, equally he has done some great stuff in other high pressure games

Dive for the penalty in the 05 CL final <whistle>
Goal against West Ham in the 06 FA Cup final
