    Only if Arsenal finish in the champions league.

    5th in the league = join Europa league in play off stage (really the final qualification round)

    FA cup winner = straight into Europa league group stage.

    If Arsenal win the FA cup but finish anywhere outside the top four, or even finish 4th and Manure do the unthinkable and win the CL, they will qualify via their cup win not league position, and the runners up get sod all bar a day out at Wembley.

    Winning the FA cup is the strongest method of qualifying for the Europa league.

    It seemed like we always drew them, and until now, they were better than us for a long time.

    A hard tie with little chance of success which is hardly the most exciting. I'm sure Orient had the same reaction after drawing us again this season in the league cup.

    I don't think that's right. Runners up in FA Cup get EL place if winner is in either European comp. Cup runner up always takes priority over league finish.

    Mr Hat is spot on. The FA cup slot gives the highest entry to the EL. So if arsenal win the cup and finish 5th, they take the FA cup EL slot and 6th/7th also qualify (7th cos Manchester City will be in CL). It's all on wiki and the uefa website, search for "Europe league 2014-15".

    You do know that Arsenal just have to finish 6th for us to get European football if we play them in the final? Has nothing to do with Champions League.

    Here are the qualification rules:

    ======
    A Europa League place is vacated when a team qualifies for both the Champions League and the Europa League, or qualifies for the Europa League by more than one method. When a place is vacated, it is redistributed within the national association by the following rules:

    When the domestic cup winners (considered as the "highest-placed" qualifier within the national association with the latest starting round) also qualify for the Champions League, their Europa League place is vacated. As a result, either of the following teams qualify for the Europa League:

    The domestic cup runners-up, provided they have not yet qualified for European competitions, qualify for the Europa League as the "lowest-placed" qualifier (with the earliest starting round), with the other Europa League qualifiers moved up one "place" (the 2014–15 season will be the last with this particular arrangement).
    Otherwise, the highest-placed team in the league which have not yet qualified for European competitions qualify for the Europa League, with the Europa League qualifiers which finish above them in the league moved up one "place".

    When the domestic cup winners also qualify for the Europa League through league position, their place through the league position is vacated. As a result, the highest-placed team in the league which have not yet qualified for European competitions qualify for the Europa League, with the Europa League qualifiers which finish above them in the league moved up one "place" if possible.

    For associations where a Europa League place is reserved for the League Cup winners, they always qualify for the Europa League as the "lowest-placed" qualifier (or as the second "lowest-placed" qualifier in cases where the cup runners-up qualify as stated above). If the League Cup winners have already qualified for European competitions through other methods, this reserved Europa League place is taken by the highest-placed league team in the league which have not yet qualified for European competitions.
    =======

    England has three places, ranked from highest to lowest as follows - FA Cup winners, 5th in PL, League Cup winners.

    That's correct <ok>

    From the FA website:

    ''Europa League

    England are entitled to three places: one for the fifth-place team in the Premiership, one for The FA Cup and one for the League Cup.

    If the winners of The FA Cup have qualified for Europe by other means, then the runners-up take their Europa League place. If this team has also already qualified, then the Europa League place goes to the next-placed team in the Premiership.

    If the winners of the League Cup have qualified for Europe by other means, then the runners-up do not take their Europa League place: the Europa League place goes to the next-placed team in the Premiership.

    If an English team wins the Europa League and qualifies for the Champions League by their Premiership placing, then they qualify for the Champions League. If they win the Europa and qualify for the Europa through the Premiership or the cup competitions, then we do not gain an extra place. If they have not qualified for Europe through the Premiership or the cup competitions, then they qualify for the Europa League as an extra team.''

    The bit in bold is the important part. If you read the wiki page you will see a reference [4] at the point of discussing who gets EL places. If you follow the link it takes you to a page about UEFA committee addressing changes which it hopes to implement for 2015/16 season!

    I'm not sure they are different [although it's all a bit silly isn't it].

    The LC winners EL place has already gone to the next best placed ie 6th - cos man city will surely get a CL spot.

    The interesting part of the premier league link is ''runners-up (if applicable)'' - If we're considering the teams to be Hull and Arsenal then I interpret that as meaning both teams would have to already be in Europe for the spot to go to the next best placed team - and only Arsenal will [most likely] have European football - so the runner up, who doesn't, will get the EL spot.
