http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/everton-fc-announce-plans-unveil-6882340 Everton Football Club are to unveil a permanent memorial to the Hillsborough 96 at Goodison Park. The move comes just weeks ahead of the 25th anniversary of the disaster which cost 96 Liverpool fans their lives and only days before of the start of the long-awaited new inquests which begin in Warrington on Monday. The Blues have stood shoulder-to shoulder with their Red neighbours since the tragic events of April 1989, helping to organise the chain of scarves across Stanley Park that linked Anfield to Goodison seven days after the disaster and providing fitting opponents for the all-Merseyside FA Cup final at Wembley the following month. The gesture of solidarity following the landmark publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report in September 2012, when two youngsters led the teams out at Goodison Park wearing Liverpool and Everton shirts with the numbers nine and six emblazoned on the back, symbolised the unity across Merseyside and is likely to feature as part of the memorial. Everton's Head of Media and Communications Mark Rowan said: "Plans at this moment are in the early stages. But we have a commitment to unveil a memorial to coincide with the 25th anniversary of that tragic day. "Evertonians and the Club have always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the families of the Hillsborough victims and we feel it is fitting that our home should have a permanent tribute to the 96." Massive credit to the blues Take a bow chaps
When it comes to Hillsborough, Everton and their supporters have always stood shoulder to shoulder with us and deserve total respect for that. So all I can do is applaud their decision and thank them from the bottom of my heart.
They say you can choose your friends, but not your family, but we could never have been blessed with better family.
Thank you Everton Football Club. Blood is thicker than water, especially when it comes to us and our blue brothers and sisters from over the park. JFT96-RIP RJ
Think that's why our rivalry is special. More to our clubs than just football and no doubt that of those that lot their lives, family & friends of there's were probably Blues as well.
Classy Everton. We have a special rivalry as this clearly shows. Unique in world football? Is there any other derby with a similar make up? Genuine question. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Everton A strange one - a Local derby that respect each other so much. Probably the only one like that in world football. Massive respect to Everton. #friends EDIT: I didn't read the post above, but I'd like to see if there was a similar derby in world football - Personally, I seriously doubt it.
