Like most City supporters wize I would love to see both NM and AA stay at Ashton Gate but the realities of out financial situation might dictate another scenario. I can understand Nicky's desire to play in the Premier but I would hate to see him go to an instant relegation club or to sit on the bench a higher placed team. However The ultimate decision will be his and we must respect whatever he decides but I hope he won't be misguided by a greedy agent just interested in his cash. Good luck Nicky and please make the right decision to stay at BCFC.
I don't think our financial situation really comes into play here in terms of being forced to sell players. Whilst Steve has put over 24 million into the club, he is astute enough to realize that this was nothing more than a gift as he is unlikely to ever see a penny of it back. Championship, and frankly most Premier teams, are just bad investments and are really rich men's playthings now. Steve is saving over 20 million a year in taxes by being non-resident assuming a 5% rate of return. He's being nice enough to donate that to the club. Thank you Sir! Where the cash does come into play is the wages - simply put we can only pay relative peanuts compred to a Premier League team. To the average fan, Nicky will have been offerred a kings ransom under the new contract but it's still probably only around 50% of what he could get by moving on. Of course, the grass is always greener and a few of the recent Championship hot shots have really failed by moving on - Jason Scotland and Jermaine Beckford are prime examples. Fabulous players in our league but non-starters in the Prem. However, both these guys made big money, so in finanancial terms there is no short term downside for them. What really pisses me off is the fact that the players show no loyalty. Nicky's agent (still his dad??) is telling him not to sign as under a Bosman free he can negotiate a better signing bonus. This is likely true. But what about the fact that City splashed out 2.25 million for him and put him in the "shop window", paid him a good wage and basically lost a season of his services when he was injured? By signing a new deal with us, he is likely not going to lose out to a material extent as if a bigger club wants him, they will still pay big money in wages and signing fees and City recoup a chunk of cash to help maintain the club. Words cannot describe how much I detest the Bosman ruling and how the Premier League ****s all over the lower leagues. This is perpetuated even more by greedy agents and players who simply have become mercanaries. I understand that there are those who will say that the average fan would sell out their employer to move to a better job but very few of us are lucky enough to have guaranteed fixed term contracts where we still get paid if we perform or not. Come on Nicky - show some loyalty and sign. If you want to move, you'll have our blessing if you at least look out for the very club that has been looking out for you. End of rant.
Tampa All of my sentiments and frustrations are included in your understanable rant. As if the modern pro game didn't favour the big boys quite enough anyway, the Bosman ruling just rubber stamps it in cases like this but we can't change it. However if Maynard does go, I'd much rather see him join someone like Everton than him go to a Wigan or a Blackburn or any other of those prefabricated Premier League clubs with no fan base.
Adomah has signed an extension in the summer, so we would be talking money and hopefully good money for him. Maynard I think listening to him speak about Mcinnes would stay if no one comes in for him in Jan, so hopefully they would have to pay for him. Waiting till the summer could be a gamble if he don't have a good second half to season. Hopefully I'm correct on this but I have pulled my back out this week and whacked up on painkillers. Can't believe that I will miss the game on Saturday 1st home game for over 2 years
