please log in to view this image Everton Football Club has banned a supporter for tweeting racist and homophobic comments at a Malaysian fan. The club acted after a series of tweets were posted making abusive remarks about Richard Wee. Mr Wee made headlines in February when his plans to see Everton play live for the first time in 30 years were thwarted after the Blues' match against Crystal Palace was postponed. A club spokesman confirmed they sent a letter to the twitter user on Friday. 'Zero tolerance policy' The Everton spokesman said: "The club has contacted a supporter informing them of our decision to ban them from all Everton matches indefinitely after they appeared to have posted homophobic and racist comments linked to the club on the social media site twitter. "This is a breach of our ticket terms and conditions. "Everton has a zero tolerance policy on racism and homophobia." The fan accused of being responsible for posting the comments was traced via an email address linked to the twitter account. The club spokesman added that the accused fan has seven days to write to the club with proof that he did not post the offensive comments. The offending twitter account has since been deactivated. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-27973941
No. It was his account therefore as far as EFC are concerned he did it. So the maggot's been banned from the clubs premises, as is their prerogative - and rightly so.
If something is received from a private account(email/Twitter etc), it's assumed to have come from the account holder unless they can prove it wasn't them. Someone recently got off, as they proved their mate had nicked their phone and abused people to drop him in the ****.
Assumed by who? Has that been tested in court? By the sound of things, the guy's guilty, but the presumption of innocence and onus on the accuser to prove their case are quite fundamental to our society.
couple of points 1) what was said to warrant a ban ? 2) what drives people to post abuse about another person that they've probably never met ?
It's not a legal issue. They've banned the maggot for making a number of foul racist remarks with a twitter account that was his. There's no onus on them to prove anything, they've just banned him from their premises, which is 100% their right. irrespective of the issue.
Maybe better to force him into some sort of rehabilitation programme to get his bigoted views beaten out of him. He'll gain nothing from stopping being a **** now but give him a reason to change his ways and he might just become a decent member of society.
It's not EFC's responsibility to rehabilitate some racist tit. It is however, their responsibility to show zero tolerance of that form of behaviour.
Fair play to them for taking this stand. It's his account, he is responsible for it regardless if he posted this crap or not, and in any case it looks like it was him. He should be named and shamed in all local papers too. Tobes, undoubtedly, as the day progresses, you will be subject to varying degrees of trolling on this thread. My advice is ignore them.
It's potentially defamation of character, and it can certainly be challenged legally. The onus would be on those making the allegation to prove it, not for the accused to prove they didn't.
It pisses me off that these ****s sit there all day winding people up and as soon as they're done for it they cry about it.
It's not defamation of character at all. As the club wrote to him in a private letter informing him of their decision. It is him who's then posted this letter on the net. In any case your premise is wrong anyway, as if you're accusing me of defamation it's you that needs to prove that I did so.
