...we had disappointing results against the lower end of the table teams. I remember Tranmere and Walsall away in League One when we were in the promotion places and they were fighting relegation and who can forget Bristol City doing the double over us and Doncaster beating us away in the Championship. The point is that you cannot judge a team by individual results it is how many points you accumulate over a season. Our results against teams outside of the traditional top 6 have been brilliant this season with great away wins at West Ham and Swansea and spectacular wins against Sunderland and Newcastle at home. At this moment in time we just need to get another point on the board to turn it around and a result against Everton will go a long way to seeing a change in our fortunes. Also the feel good factor of a Cup semi-final would also raise spirits, so tuesday's match at Sheffield Utd is probably the most important this season. We have only been outplayed a couple of times this season and we could've easily have had 6 or 7 points from our last 3 games instead of none. It's looking more likely that a top 10 finish is more likely than a top 4 one, but that would still represent a great achievement considering where we were in the summer.. COYS!
Well said, Saints_Alive, I certainly needed a bit of positivity this morning and you have done the trick. I remember those awful games you mention, particularly Bristol City away when Chaplow got injured and was never the same player again. Remember when Brighton mugged us at theirs in the Championship and Rickie got sent off? And yet despite all that we ended up in the Prem, and never dropped out of the top two all season. Similarly this season, we have lost 4 in a row but are still in 5th place! You are right, every team has bad patches in a season, and let's hope we are coming to the end of ours. I am looking forward to the glorious sunlit uplands of 2015, when we might stick another trophy in our cabinet at long last.
As I said elsewhere, if the results were shuffled and we were 5th we'd be happy enough. It's a run of bad results that give us (and the players) a twitch. Always feels better to climb up than slide even if you end in the same position. The team mustn't make a drama out of a crisis...win on Tuesday would do wonders and something against Everton. Would give us more confidence against Chelsea...who we should remember have been beaten unexpectedly already.
the only team that have not had a bad run is Chelsea. We would have had to have a lost of form at some time, lets just get out of it quickly
OK, how's this for a positive thought then: even after losing 4 games in a row, we are still 5 points ahead of Liverpool. Who would have thought that possible?
We are benefitting from our early good form...it's helping us through this blip (please make it a blip). There are a few teams snapping at our heels, but for them to be successful we have to keep losing whilst they go on a run. A few wins for us could keep them in their place.
