Has anyone else read the Marcus Evans interview with the BBC and thought our owner comes across as a bit naive? It's a preview, so the full interview is scheduled to air tomorrow, but a couple of things caught my eye. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28791885) Judging from the quotes, Evans was told by the board that promotion would be a certainty because the club were only a 'couple of signings' short of promotion material when Joe Royle was in charge. I presumed that a cautious multi-millionaire, who, until recently, couldn't even be identified in the street, would be a little more diligent with details before buying a football club and spending the type of money that entails. Evans said he was informed that Royle was short a couple of big-money signings from clinching promotion (a well-worn hypothesis a few Ipswich fans say, but one that should come under a bit of scrutiny when evaluating Royle's record with money in the transfer market). Yet when Evans took over the club, Royle's squad was much-changed. It was Magilton, a managerial novice, not Royle with his success and decades of experience, who was in charge at the time of the takeover. Also, according to Evans, he frequently gets takeover bids and has rebuffed them all. Are there really that many takeover bids? While I am of course grateful for Evans and his investment over the course of the years, this interview seems like a fluffy PR stunt to get him in the fans' good books now the cash has dried up.
I just hope Evans sells up sooner rather than later as his tenure has been a complete and utter bloody disaster! 80 Million in debt to the invisible man and now we are left with a paper thin squad and no prospect of any money being invested on decent players! I was disgusted by our shower on Tuesday night and I'm still bloody angry now. This once great football club is in a right bloody mess make no mistake about it! I'm surprised that Mick and Terry have held on for so long but now that Pulis has done one I wouldn't be surprised if Palace come calling!
If Mick was unhappy Warkster I'm sure he would have left by now he does not strike me as the kind of bloke that sits quietly and toes the company line if things are not how they should be.
