In 2018 the agreement between the European Club Association and UEFA comes town end. The President of Galatasary among others has come out and said that a European Super League is a very strong possibility. In fact he has gone as far as saying it is almost certain. The big clubs, such as the two Spanish clubs Barca and RM have already made noises about such a league.

Which clubs would be involved? Only clubs for Spain, England, France, Germany and Italy, which would rule our Galatasary who are proposing the idea.

Discussions suggest a Europe wide league.

Would this involve Celtic? If there were a second league, we would almost certainly be in there as the 13th most successful club in Europe and as former winners of the major trophy.

Celtic are a full member of the ECA as are Aberdeen. This would give a good scottish geographical distribution and would include Scotland's two most successful clubs according to UEFA rankings.

Celtics reputation as the best atmosphere in a European stadium has been further by the comments of Piquet Messi, Xavi and Iniesta recently as well as Maldini in the past.
Two good arguments along with the ground capacity and attendance record over the last decade could enhance our chances.

This would put Celtic on another plain.

Watch this space. My first reaction was to dismiss this, but discussions are progressing among the top clubs.

    We live in interesting times.

    Lol

SEVCO are only an associate member of the ECA. Aberdeen as a full member and former winners of the CWC and ESC would have a stronger claim.

Unlikely that the SL would have two reps from Scotland. Celtic only game in town.

Football will change as Sky etc and the big money clubs push for it. Domestic football will find its own level.

If we can continue our current high profile in European club football then we will be in with a great chance.

In a decade celtic could be THE ONLY scottish rep in the SL and as such could attract massive investment.

Their children could well be Celtic supporters.

you are talking out of your hole. if and it's a massive if there was to be a super league you can bet your mortgage that rangers would be invited. no matter what you think of them they have a massive fan base and that would be an income generator.

    You really believe that?

I think this has been disproved on several and on one noteworthy occasion. However, I tend to agree with you that they would be invited IF they are a viable product in 2018/19.

Yes. European nights are special and I look forward to them. If we go for a European league it will just become another run of the mill game.

How would it even work? What are the fans expected to do?

Rather than make the big clubs bigger, how about we look at making the game fairer and spreading the wealth.

    The football community.

I.e we need to look at our leagues as a whole. There is more than one team in a league.

The American way of doing things is fairer with the draft.

I kind of agree. Not just the draft, but the profit sharing too. The CL is making the elite teams elitererereer.

Football is becoming too much about business these days.

Look at the money you need to spend to win the money league down south. Its ridiculous and took all the fun out the game. You know only a handful of team can win the league before it even starts, where as you look at the lower leagues and its anybody's guess.

Ever since they introduced the champions league the European cup has went the same. Liverpool won it in 2005 and got to the final in 2007 yet have never been close to winning the league in 20+ years. It's a joke.
