McNally: "If, for example, you have managed in Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga, they are some of the toughest leagues in the world, too. So why on earth if there is a candidate in one of those leagues who was available and we felt was right for us should we say no to them just because they haven't managed in the Premier League?" Is this an indication of the likes of Laudrup?
all he's saying is that no path will be left untrodden in his quest for a new manager. it doesn't mean we'll get a european coach
mcnally is also, as you'd expect, being extremely clever here. by telling us that we could be hiring a european coach he has suddenly got everyone excited by the prospect of someone new and exotic coming in. if we don't get one and plump for a british manager, we know they have top flight experience so nobody will be complaining, especially if its hughton. suddenly the fans are more positive and talking about the future rather than looking back. lambert who? mcnally is a genius
You are probably right Superman but would love to see so called top "managers" try and do it with 20 k a week! That would be something that would prove them. Take the "special one" would he be able to achieve with that budget. I m a big believer that money buys success irrelevant of the manager. Yes you still have to pull them together (something AVB did not do), but even Chelsea never dropped below 6th.
that's highlighted one reason why i wouldn't want someone with such a high profile. they have usually attained their profile by managing the biggest clubs, but that by no means proves that they can hack it at a slightly lower level. benitez, for example, i believe would be a total failure were he to join norwich, but would probably do very well at someone like chelsea. laudrup is far more interesting, because although he's a big name in the game, he's generally managed smaller clubs who've had to compete with the big boys - and he's done pretty well, so i can understand why he's attractive to some fans. i cannot understand why benitez is attractive though (and it has nothing to do with his silly goatee beard)
Yes had not considered the goatee as a look in a manager. Not a big fan of Laudrup. Who has he managed recently?
not a fan of laudrup but a fan of benitez? interesting! laudrup's teams play attacking football - something you can't claim of benitez. he's managed mallorca and getafe in spain and before them managed in his native denmark. i think he had an uninspiring short spell in russia but that may be me losing my mind! he's good at working with the smaller clubs and making them good to watch and keeping them up. he had no end of turmoil to contend with at mallorca! he's not someone i particularly want as our manager but wouldn't be against him coming. certainly more so than rafa anyway
Its all speculation at the end of the day Super, which is always good for debate. Chris Hughton would be fine for me.
I'd hate the fat waitor to get the job - he is, IMO, responsible for Liverpool's more recent demise with the amount of average foreigners he brought in.
I'd say Dalglish has a bigger say in that. I agree about Benitez, it just wouldn't work. I am very much liking the sound of Laudrup however.
The really positive thing to take from the statement is that e are looking in a pond that is so different to where we were fishing 3 years ago. We are not looking for league 1 or 2 experience but top flight and for that we have to thank Paul Lambert. I am sorry but I think that Grant Holt is acting like a dock and I was heartened by Russell Martin's commens today. OTBC
