I notice some of you have been to watch Hertha. Me & some chaps aiming to catch a game in feb / march. Any tips re getting tickets, travel, hotels etc?
Tickets can be hard , the fanclubs sell tickets in Germany and you normally have to be a member All tickets in Germany come with free train, bus , metro travel for the area of the game You can drink in the stadion, you buy a food and drink card and load money onto the card around the stadion , then spend at the kiosks The police are normally backed in numbers , and dress in green boiler suit things with massive truncheons, they use them without a second thought and ask questions later , they don't fuk about with anyone that wants to make trouble Apart from that enjoy
Went in February on a stag night with 17 of us Tickets ordered online from UK and picked up at ground (17 Euro I think) Very easy from ticket booths outside Get tickets in the Ostcurve end for a sing song, nothing edgy though just a good laugh Everyone congregates in the car park for a beer. Drinking on the train to the ground is acceptable, taking bottles to the car park seems expected, but there are loads of beer and bratwurst stalls there. No police, no trouble, no rubbish left lying around! (Pubs before don't seem the done thing...certainly not as much as in the car park) You can't take beer in, but it's sold inside ( deposit on big glasses I think) I wouldn't stay near the ground though. It's really easy to get to from middle of Berlin, and Berlin is great to visit anyway. Berlin is however bloody massive so where to stay depends on what you want to see as well as game, and how long you're there for (Hilton in the middle is nice and fairly reasonable) ...while at the ground you will take a photo of yourself with the Olympic Rings behind you...you just will !
Oh and if you use the trains make sure you 'validate' your ticket before you get on the train Even if you buy a multi day ticket that has the time you buy it on, so it's obvious when it runs from and to, you still need to validate the ****ing thing! I happen to know that if you don't, and you get caught, you will be fined 40 ****ing Euros!!!
Iv not been to Hertha Iv been to Hamburg , Bay Lev , Cologne , Schalke, Dortmund , Bochum , Dusseldorf, Bremen in the North , and Twente , PSV in Holland , Standard Liege Anderlecht in Belgium, Lille and Lens in France
Went to see St Pauli last weekend, which was a good trip. Perks of going- their fans put on a decent show of support. You could stand on a terrace, they constantly sang throughout the match. We didn't need to travel as we stayed near the Reeperbahn, tickets weren't too expensive & you could drink n the ground. In then end, the match was class. The end to end contest made up for the lack of technical ability. Sometimes you get bored ****less of watching matches here, especially, in the premier league when there's a gulf in abilities when facing the top sides. There was the odd thing that was a slight downside. Didn't care for the goal music, and why they sing certain songs in English is a bit strange. Particularly, St Pauli who sell scarves with "**** the English" on them. Must be that Celtic love in.
Make sure you do a good rendition of one World Cup and two world wars. Gave me some fun last time I was in Germany, the night we played San Marino whilst they struggled to draw with Sweden? A couple years back.
Went to see hertha a couple of years ago. Was the game they had to win to win the league. We (20) of us just turned up and got tickets from the ticket office. Great set up. Big fan park outside the ground. Everyone drinking inside and outside the ground and never saw one bit of trouble.
Stay at Wombats hostel. Go to the nearby Alexanderplatz station and buy tickets there under the main stairs. Train out to the stadium. It's immense
Lots of alcohol. People stood up singing.Sounds awful. Thank goodness we don't have that sort of thing at the KC.
Iv watched football all over Europe and sadly the KC is one of the worst for atmospheres iv come across , its depressingly bad, ..so bad iv not gone to a home game for over 2 season now , iv only watched City away Only 10 miles away on land is Feyenoord Stadion, one of the best in Europe , night on the ferry , then just 4 miles to the stadion , you can be bouncing with a pint in your hand and letting smoke bombs off , and singing that deafens you around De Kuip Stadion
'you can be bouncing with a pint in your hand and letting smoke bombs off , and singing that deafens you' too much multi-tasking for me that mate think I'll stick with the KC!
BT Sport have that match down for tomorrow so I hope you are right and they are wrong? http://sport.bt.com/live-football-on-bt-sport-S11376627423099
