We never lost it. Spurs might have had a decent start to the season, but it takes more than one swallow to make a summer. A few seasons ago, Hull City were in the top 4 near Christmas ....... and there was no Humber power shift either
I agree - i think we have done enough now for people like Jayram who hold onto this silly idea that there has been a power shift to get over it. Spurs had a good start to the season but that is it. They are now out of the League Cup and out of the Europa League without making it out of the group stages. They are only two points ahead of us (with a game in hand) - and we are not even half way through the season. There really is nothing to worry about. There has been no power shift, we have not been overtaken. Spurs have improved massively as a team over the last few years but they are still the lesser of the North London clubs.
Seconded. Overall I believe they have a slightly stronger squad, albeit not by much. Obviously we'll be a different team with Jack and Sagna back in the line up bu they're not there yet. I also think we're just a couple of players away from being a very good side.
Ok so let's evaluate the current positions of both Spurs and Arsenal. Let's start with competitions: EPL: Spurs ahead by 2 points (with a game in hand) - so spurs doing slightly better after having a great start compared to our very poor start. Still not much difference and at less than half way through the season easily changable. FA Cup: Both still in it - both have fairly straightforward draws. League Cup: Arsenal went further than Spurs - Spurs knocked out very early by Spurs - Arsenal doing better but being put out by City. Europe: Spurs knocked out of the group stages of a weak Europa League Group. Arsenal Top of there CL group against a much higher standard of opponent than Spurs. So overall Spurs are doing better in 1/4 competition, we are equal on 1/4 and Arsenal are doing better or have done better in 2/4. So overall Arsenal are having the better season imo. Then if we look at strength of the first team we have the better GK and better forward options without a doubt - similar strength midfields when all players are fit and imo we have the better back-line as well although some may disagree. Squad depth we are alright for cover for all positions but could do with a little more quality - it could be argued that spurs have better back-up options but that is the only area i can see where Spurs are possibly ahead of us. Your all over-reactign to being a couple of points behind them in the league. Other than that we are having the better season.
Yes they did beat us in a game. A game very early in the season when we did not have our first team together, before our 9 new signings had gelled together and managed it only with a handball. Hardly a sign there has been a power shift.
I'm not It's not a competition that I'd have wanted us to field too many first teamers in but it's still worth winning, just as with the League Cup. Far from the end of the World though, hopefully we can ship out a few of the experienced players that flopped and give the youngsters a chance out on loan.
Aye, my boss is a Spurs fan (I know I know) and he's livid they went out. Rubin aside Spurs should have p*ssed that group, even with a weaker squad (like our Carling Cup team). As it was 'arry went for an insultingly weak team and treated it with no respect, no matter what he says. I don't doubt this has helped them in the league but it makes a mockery of English clubs in Europe (as did Fergie's words when they got knocked out). No wonder the rest of Europe think we're dicks at times!
To be honest, I thought they did well. It was the PAOK home game, where we fielded our strongest team of the whole group fixtures that was the only poor result. As for the line ups being weak, what did you expect? We can't send a strong squad to Russia 3 days before we play in the Premier League and we weren't helped by a lot of our more experienced players, who aren't in the first 11, getting injured.
Well you'd know more about your injuries to your team than me. Based on what I knew of your team/strength in depth I thought you could have put out better squads. Meh, I won't pretend I'm unhappy at the outcome!
Dawson and Huddlestone missed all of the group stages, whilst Pav, Sandro, Corluka, Gallas, Bassong, Kranjcar and Pienaar all missed atleast 2 games with injury. It's no excuse though as whilst we did lack some quality on occasions, Bale, Walker, Benny and Modric all featured more than I expected them to.
