Since they've decided that in the interests of avoiding burnout they're not going to take any players from the England Euro 2012 squad for the Olympics squad there are some players that could be in an interesting position. Clearly the likes of Terry and Ferdinand are going to go to the Euros as first choice players, but what about the fringe players? Some of them, particularly the likes of Danny Welbeck (unless he has a top end to the season) are going to be given the choice of being a fringe player at the Euros, or a first team player at the Olympics. Are players that opt for the Olympics going to pilloried for weakening our squad at the Euros or praised for going to the Olympics because they want to represent the country by actually playing?
Darren Ferguson is nailed on for central midfield. He only stopped playing lower league football four years ago, how can he not play?
as its the London Olympics, and not ours anyway, then take the players from their local teams. Who cares, its got nothing to do with us anyway
I think we'll pretty much see the England U21 squad, with a few elder statesmen including a couple of Welsh\Scottish. Would be nice to see some of our young lads get a run out though; Chester, Stewart?
Anyone picked for the Euro's, will go to the Euro's, they won't be asked if they fancy going, or if they'd rather stay at home to play in the Olympics. Bale and Ramsey will probably make the squad, not sure there's many Jocks in the running, maybe Charlie Adam?
I think we will find you are right, it will be the U21 squad with about seven seniors who are not going to the Euro Finals.
The Euros should be the top priority and that's it. For the likes of Welbeck he should be proud to be a fringe player at the Euros.
