We didn’t take a single game by the scruff of the neck. All Europe found us boring. We weren’t even the well-drilled kind of boring.
Just seen that Harry Kane had one touch in the box across both of England's two Euros finals with Southgate. Ouch
Brutal. I do actually love Southgate. He’s a class bloke. He’s done us all proud. But I really hope he walks away now. Time for something new.
100%. Best for all parties. Don't think he's got it in him mentally to do another two years anyway tbh.
I don’t necessarily agree that the England manager must be English, but they absolutely must understand the English game, media and fans. Both times we’ve gone foreign previously (Sven, Capello) we’ve gone for managers with no English experience. That’s why I’d be fine with Klopp, Poch, etc. For me international management is so much more about tactical understanding than club management, because you can’t just have a system that works for you then go and buy players to make fit it. Instead you have a pool of players and have to find a system for them, That’s my worry for Klopp or Poch, they very much have their own style they’ve always played.
It's 9.30at nifhtb in the USA and am in the process of getting completely ****fac3s. **** Southgate and **** that useless lump of **** Kane.
This might be a salty take, but I'd think it even if it were say, the Netherlands v Spain in the final. Spain were by far the best team in the tournament, played the best football, won every game, had the toughest run to the final and deserved the win. But them winnning it again is boring as ****. It's only been a couple of tournaments since they were last dominating international football. It's like Real Madrid winning the Champions League. Bore off.
That's for the higher ups to do. And it only really feels like the right managerial appointment away.
Obviously absolutely gutted. This tournament was there for the taking and Southgate f*cked it by not using his full squad. He clearly didn't trust the likes of Wharton or Gordon, so why pick them? Rice played every minute of every game. We don't need to rely on players like that. We have 3 of the best strikers in the competition, so why only play one of them? Madness. Whoever the new manager is, they need to be someone who is more willing to change the team up. On a positive note, we are getting to finals now, so the hard work being done at St. George's is clearly paying off. Our squad will look amazing in 2026 and beyond.
For me it’s criminal that Wharton was given 0 minutes. Genuinely think he is the best midfielder we have at dictating a game and receiving the ball under pressure. We will see, but I think in hindsight it will look worse and worse that he didn’t play. I think he will be a massive player.
Not sure I have it in me either tbh. Why can’t you just resign from giving a ****, about Saints or England?
It was too much trying to fit all our star players into the team and play them all as much as possible no matter how fatigued they looked or how badly they were playing and regardless of whether it was best for the team dynamics...which it quite clearly wasn't. We were still juggling around with who to play in midfield for half the games and we didn't carry a threat on the left hand side the entire tournament! There were so many things wrong with the team, we should really have been knocked out much, much sooner than we were based on performances.
The thing is though, this Spanish team bears zero resemblance to the tiki-taka based football they won 3 major championships with under Aragones and del Bosque. They have moved on and play direct, exciting football which makes the most of the amazing talents they have at their disposable. They are happy to lose possession as they can always win it back again. They suit the football to the players’ abilities, rather than forcing the talent into unfamiliar positions like Southgate has done.
Oh I completely agree. I just wanted to throw my toys out the pram at Spain winning AGAIN. They also won Wimbledon via Alcaraz and Sail GP yesterday too. Their womens football team beat the English in the World cup last year as well...as if their mens team also winning the euros back to back recently with a world cup win sandwiched in the middle wasn't enough for them. GREEDY! Learn to share better Spain. 12 years without winning major international honours is not nearly enough pain and suffering.
