OK it is the business end of the Season and I do believe we will be at least in the playoffs, but something to take your minds off all that with the up and coming Euros. As of late my interest in the National team has dwindled due to the constant supply of empty shelves in the England trophy cabinet but on this occasion i will try to have some enthusiasm, with the memories of the Golden generation long in the past my starting 11 for the first game against Russia. Formation 3-5-2 GK----- Hart CB----- Cahill CB----- Stones CB----- Smalling LW-----Sterling LM-----Dier CAM-----Rooney RM----- Barkley RW----- Walcott FW----- Vardy FW----- Kane With sterling and Walcott with pace down the wings to get passed the back line, Rooney tends to drop in deep and pick the ball up, why not just start him there!!
James, I admire your optimism ( it comes with being a Gills' fan ) - but with the way that the Germans and Spanish teams have played this week, you might be looking at an empty trophy cabinet for some time to come. In case you need elaboration - I suggest you ask any fan of Arsenal or Tottenham - both teams were 'blown away' by their opponents - who featured players that would ( sorry - I mean WILL ), run rings around English defenders.
To be honest I have about as much interest in England as I do the Premier League, simply because even the roots of that has been eroded by foreign imports at club level. I will support England as I do at any event but Rooney seriously is he still an England player, shows how desperate we are or how difficult it is to scrape a team together.
