EUFA has backed off on the sanctions they imposed on Man City for not meeting the governing bodies rules and regulations. They have reduced the number of home grown players (now there's a joke) that they must include in their squad from 9 down to 5 and made part of their fine of 49 million (32 million) to be suspended. suspended. All of these sanctions and fines were imposed for them not meeting the financial fair play rules laid out by EUFA.

Now forgive me for taking my usual cynical view of the governing bodies of the sport, and I include all of them in my negative column, but what kind of message are they sending out? Coming days after the Qatar debacle and Blatter's rants about racism it makes me think that money is the sole decision maker when it comes to the people that run the sport. Am I so far from the mark?

If a team is spending millions over budget on players and wages then a fine isn't the right way to solve the problem.

At least the money they pay on wages is subject to UK PAYE and therefore benefits us all!!

Can you be sure? Accountants have many magical ways to divert income subject to tax, to alternative destinations without the tax man even knowing.

Sadly you are probably right - their marginal rate of tax will be lower than ours

I bet many are doing a "Jimmy Carr" i.e. using schemes like K2 to avoid massive amounts of tax, the next big scandal?
