It feels at the moment that time is catching up with my generation. RIP. Hope he finds heaven in the backseat of his Caddy
RIP. seemed a decent fella when i saw him interviewed. Started with a Kiss always reminds me of my old Gaffer who used to sing it all the bloody time.
I once heard a story that Errol once got into the back of a black cab and the conversation went like this, obviously after they'd discussed where they were going. Cabbie- So then mate what do you do for a living? Errol- I'm in Hot Chocolate. Cabbie- What, supplying it to vending machines and that? Might not be true but it made me chuckle. RIP.
Wasn't particularly big fan of Hot Chocolate but saw them at Scene One in Scarborough early seventies. He came out and was talking to all the people hanging about in the street afterwards. Seemed a really pleasant guy with no edge.he went across to a lad sitting on a really smart scooter with all sorts of accessories, admired it and asked if he could have a spin. He went round the corner and came off. Left details so he could be contacted with details of damage and pay for it. Some people don't think of them as being particularly big but they were only one of 3 acts to have a chart entry in every year of the 1970s. The other two were Elvis Presley and Diana Ross just to emphasise what an achievement that was. Most were written by Errol Brown. Just read in an obituary they are the only group to have a top ten hit in three decades with the same song. RIP.
1975. The political turmoil in The Philippines at its height. The dictatorship, corruption and brutality of Ferdinand. The footwear fetish of Imelda. You remember. People died. It was awful. Anyway. You Sexy Thing is released. My old man complains bitterly. Should be banned he sez. Why? we ask. I believe in Marcos, Where you from, you sexy thing? he replies. How we laughed. And laughed. And despaired. Deaf twat he was. Thing is, I still think that should be the lyric every time I hear Errol sing the song. RIP. To Errol. Not Ferdinand and Imelda.
Aye my old man didnt like Errol. Or Marc Bolan or Bowie, any of em really. He thought it was Milko, what the bloody hells milko get that **** off (TOTP). He was right about Savile though.
As good a RIP as anyone could wish for. I liked them, easy listen and he interviewed well as he grew older. Good memories, cheers, Errol.
My late mother in law was a big fan in her 80s. She wasn't into pop music generally but she loved Errol for some reason. RIP to both of them.
Oh ****!! Another part of my youth gone. I thought he was immortal, the coolest bloke around. Stood in front of the band, no daft dances just his superb voice. R.I. P. Errol, thanks for making my youth great!!
