Honestly the work he has done with our young goalkeeper is remarkable, to think everyone had written off our number 1, our goalkeeping coach helped him improve aspects of his game i.e. crossing, commanding his area, when to come out for corners.

I would like to thank Eric Steele for helping David De Gea and if we win the league, our goalkeeping coach deserves all the prais he gets.

I think a lot is probably due to the fact he's just had more exposure at this level. It's as simple as that. His shot stopping abilities were never in any doubt, he was making brilliant saves on his United debut (against Chicago Fire or whatever they're called <laugh>).

De Gea has always been a great shot stopper.

He still doesn't look commanding on crosses or have a big enough presence, other than a bit more confidence I don't see anything that has changed for him.

I think you are reading something into nothing in an effort to keep up your campaign to drown this board in verbal diarrhoea.

Steele probably deserves some credit, but whats made him stand out recently isn't his aerial command, its been his shot stopping - which was a big factor in his signing. It will take him about 2 years to get to the next level in terms of presence, he'll go on the same regime Ronaldo and Valencia have been on.

Former United player hails in-form goalkeeper

. De Gea: Starred for United against Blackburn

....."He is one of the best shot-stoppers I have seen and he's got great feet so he is good on the floor, too. He has got everything."

    Clayton Blackmore
    Quotes of the week
Former Manchester United defender Clayton Blackmore has praised the form of goalkeeper David de Gea - describing him as one of the best shot-stoppers he has ever seen.

The Spanish goalkeeper was widely criticised in the opening months of this season, his first in England, but in recent months his quality has shone through.

Sir Alex Ferguson highlighted De Gea's displays ahead of Manchester United's 2-0 victory over Blackburn on Monday night.

And the custodian responded by pulling of a host of crucial saves to keep United on course for the Premier League title.

Blackmore admits De Gea still has work to do in coming to terms with the specific challenges of English football, but insists his talent for making saves is undeniable.

"Any mistakes he makes are highlighted immediately by the press and I think that it is a bit unfair. People make mistakes," Blackmore told Sky Sports News.

"I have only seen him this year and he has to get used to the crossing with a lot of teams in England working on set plays.

    Bombardment
"But once he gets used to that then he will be a fantastic keeper - and to be fair he already is a fantastic keeper.

"Everyone forgets he is only a young lad. He is learning the game and he had to learn a bit faster coming to England and having to get used to the way we play, where we just lump it into the box and it is a bit of a bombardment.

"But he is one of the best shot-stoppers I have seen and he's got great feet so he is good on the floor. He has got everything."

Following their victory over Blackburn, United are now five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, and Blackmore believes it is now United's title to lose.

"We (United) are in control," he added. "Now we are five points clear we can afford to go to City and lose.

"But I can't see that happening. I really fancy us to do well when we go to City. The last time we went there we were 3-0 up at half time.

"Our away support has been fantastic. Hopefully the home support will get behind them a bit as well and we might get some better results and home and take some pressure off the players."

De Gea is currently on 10 clean sheets in the PL, 3 behind leader Joe Hart for the Barclays Golden Glove award. 6 games to go. Dodgy. #mufc
