I get texts , calls and emails every week telling me to get a smart meter. I’ve told them to stop harassing me until it’s law to have one. What’s the point in them anyway, I can tell them the readings on the app and I know where most of the power is used. No doubt it’s the friend of a Tory that makes and supplies them.
Got another email from them so replied back with complaints about harassment and no laws to have them. They’ve replied and apologised and won’t contact me again on the matter. Gtfi.

Had a guy turn up over here to instal a new smart meter (no different to the one i have but they can read it through a bluetooth connection). Anyway, this dickhead says he can't change it as he has to isolate the power and there's a bush overhanging it that might be damp and as such it's a safety hazard. Wants me go give them a call when i've removed the bush and exposed the pit.

Needless to say that was 12 months ago and the bush is still there. ****'em, they can pay the guy to walk up my driveway and read the ****ing meter.

Keep it like that. There a few reasons not to trust a smart meter.

That’s who I’m swapping to mate<ok>
My sons are on Octopus and highly recommend them, I’m with Shell Energy with a smart meter and they are alright to a degree when letting me fluctuate my DD,also I would rather freeze to death than rejoin Scottish Power, avoid at all cost if you don’t have a smart meter

Are Shell Energy customers to become Octopus customers at some point?
It will be interesting to see what changes.
Hopefully some better tariffs.

I'm with Shell and they ring me every week about smart meters.

"Great news...you've been preselected to have smart meters installed free of charge!"....

"no thanks"....

"Do you have any specific concerns I can help you with?"....

"no, I just don't need them"...........

End of conversation.

I would love to know who has got rich on the back of the smart meter role out. It was going to save money for everyone. Was it ****. It saves nothing but makes it more apparent what you are using. It also means the energy companies need less meter readers. It would be very interesting to see who are the investors in the meter producers, someone is making a fortune

Each to their own mate, but I’ve found the smart meter spot on, no more estimating bills even though I was providing accurate regular readings to Scottish Power who didn’t believe my readings so had to send a downloaded photo of evidence for them,ba**ards, I didn’t reach their estimated readings till 2 months later <steam>

I'm with EDF never had too much hassle to be fair or maybe I'm just a naive twat. Had a few refunds from them for overpayment which I've never had to ask for or chase. I've had my DD increased a few times as well mind but it's swings and roundabouts I guess. I've never been asked to pay a lump sum to catch up either.

Ps I don't work for EDF

Been with EDF we moved in, worst thing I ever did. Constant monthly battles over dd payments, smart meters that gmhavent worked since rhey installed them.

They kept taking my direct debit but any usage higher than the direct debit amount they took out later in the month. Yet when we where in credit to the tune of £800 we couldn't get a refund.

Complaint after complaint later then cancelled the direct debit amd blamed a computer error and being on the wrong tariff, got it reinstated and can't wait till I can change suppliers arlt the end of this deal in February

We're with Shell. Have no complaints really. Got a bit behind with readings, (my own fault) all sorted now and we're very understanding throughout. Had smart meters for a while know. But all energy companies took the absolute piss last year and no one stepped in to do a thing about it. Blaming wars ect. Pathetic.

Nor me. But I will ask if anyone knows ---- part of the charge is to cover the cost of taking on the customers of the companies that went bust. But what is that ''buy out charge'' used for? Did it go to those companies ,as in a takeover, in which case we have paid for the CEO's and top dogs etc to have huge salaries and bonuses whilst they busted their companies. Or, does it cover the customer accounts which were in arrears , in which case have they had debt waived at our expense. Or, did it pay off the borrowing/overdraft at the bank, in which case it's a win win for banks who can lend recklessly, keep the profits if it works out, but if it doesn't . they get their money back courtesy of us.

Alright, putting my head above the parapet here. I was a manager for the DD department for EDF and the system only ****ed up with no meter readings, but I would call customers up who thought things were wrong, now I am unemployed, looks like you dont ring people back anymore

Do you know how true it is that calls are recorded?
