Hello all, most of you probably won't remember me but I'm a saints fan who wrote on here a while back as I was off to the Birmingham vs. Watford game with my uni friend who you may know better as My Name Is D. Now the reason I'm here is that we've spontaneously planned to head down to the game on saturday and I'll be sitting with him in the home end (gulp) . Now of course I'll be on my best behaviour, as will several other saints fans who weren't able to get an away ticket with it selling out particularly quickly. I was wondering if any of you had done anything like this before? Any bad experiences I should be afraid of? Good luck to you all though, I'll be cheering on watford of course (if only to add to my disguise ). With the good form you're in (saturday excluded) and us coming back to form too it could make for a good game - 1-1 draw I reckon. Take care.
Well it depends who you are, how vocal you are for the opposition and if you are from L*t*n. If you were from scumland, then i would suggest it would be best not to even bother as there has been plenty of well documented trouble there. On the whole, we are a nice bunch, but there have been the odd occasion where opposing fans have snuck into the Rookery and have been given a beating. But on the whole it is very rare.
Twice for Watford games. At the Dell I got in through the wrong turnstile and all that separated me from the other Watford fans was a big fence and the Hampshire Constabulary. Getting into this bit of the ground was obviously a regular occurance as several other Hornets ended up in the same place and we were all moved at half time. Quite safe and lots of witty banter. Similar thing in Kaiserslautern, but the German Police allowed me to climb over the fence, rather than stand with some very large Germans. I have done this in my adoptive homeland several times. Santos x Bragantino, after the clubs owner had instructed the Bragantino fans to stay at home yours truly went down to Santos, it was quite safe until I rather stupidly asked a policeman where the visiting fans went - I had the visting fans pen all to myself and you can imagine the abuse. Corinthians x Bragantino, with a mate of mine we were being a bit obnoxious and one of the home fans thought it was a good idea to throw peanuts at us. After half time he did not return to his seat and we wondered why until the chap immediatly behind informed us he had spoken to this other fellow at the bar and aparently said "You know those two aren't Brazilian, they're English, and the only reason they haven't beaten you up is because of your young boy". We hadn't even noticed his little boy, and at the end of the game saw the lad with crutches and obviously handicapped. I have had several other scrapes caused by turning up at games wearing coloured shirts, not considering the Brazilian fans take umbrage at shirts even if in the colours of their rivals. White is always a good colour as it is pretty neutral I can thinkof quite a few teams who wear white there, SC Corinthians P, Santos FC, Sao Paulo FC, Botafogo-RJ and even CA Bragantino.
I've not done it, though I know of people who have been in the Watford end when their team is playing Watford. Really...if you don't draw attention to yourself, then you have nothing to fear. There's no way anyone would know you're a Southampton fan, unless you yourself make it obvious. Still, I've seen people with opposition scarves get away with no abuse....but if you're vocal then you're going to have a hard time not being forced out.
i've seen people in the Rookery end get hauled out and snarled at...but actually, even though quite often it's obvious that there are opposition fans around me, most of them are well behaved and so they are left alone..gotta say though, they're easy to spot a mile off
If you're in The Rookery and you jump up if Saints score, you risk getting a slap. Just the same as any dick away supporter venturing into the home teams territory - I suggest you sit on your hands.
Did one of you Hornets / Hornettes want to create a cross-board match thread? If not we can oblige. Should be some good banter between our two clubs.
Geitungur Akureyrar normally does the match threads on a Thursday. They're very good and he puts a lot of work into them.
I went to an England v RoI U-21 match at Brentford years ago. When I'd been to U-21 matches at the Vic (which always seemed to be against Denmark for reasons best known to the FA) the ground was nowhere near full so I was expecting the same thing, only to find out when I got there that it was almost sold-out. The only tickets available were in with the Irish. Eng won 3-0, I cheered all the goals but was quiet for the rest of the match and wasn't given any abuse at all.
Cross-board threads can have quite a lot of decent banter, just not enough boards have that many contributors, so hopefully this will be a good one... One thing though; if we do beat you, please don't come on here moaning it was your worst performance of the season
