http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28312923 English players afraid to play outside of England says Ashley Cole. WHY? Because most of them are too thick to learn another language!
It's because they fall completely off the radar when they go. As on the whole Spanish, French, Italian, German or even the MLS are just not followed by anyone than the people living in those countries. I don't ever recall seeing Joey Barton in a Marseille shirt, or Joe Cole in a Lille one. Gareth Bale is Gareth Bale and it's Real Madrid so got a bit of coverage, but if he had went to Seville or Levante he would have been forgot about. Does anyone know what Robbie Keanes career is doing over in the states. I go to California a lot and don't even know. Plus, what top clubs abroad would want British players when they are all fairly crap? Scotland, Wales and Ireland haven't made a major tournament in ages, and England fail miserably at everyone they play in, to the point its embarrassing. Roma aren't a top team despite finishing second (17 points behind Juventus) last year, as they usually finish 6th or 7th. Brendan Rodgers is a complete pleb, as he has just spent £60 million on 3 English players who couldn't even make the starting line up in the utter dross that got knocked out in the first round!! No foreign club is stupid enough to pay that kind of money for poorly produced British players. It's got nothing to do with fear from these overpaid twats!
Firstly, you can't blame the footballers on not making the starting 11 if the manager is afraid to pick them, but instead would rather pick a team to stop the opposition. Lallana and Wilshere should have been given the midfield from day 1 in Brazil. The problem with British players abroad is that they are over-valued by their English clubs because of their ability (in most cases) to speak English, and their familiarity with the climate etc in England. This means that they are valued higher than a more accomplished footballer from abroad, so a foreign manager has to be knocked out by the player for him to shell out-Beckham, Bale, Gascoigne, Lineker, even Ashley Cole, who REALLY should have gone to the world cup, all examples that were good enough to beat the red tape. Joe Cole was fairly cheap and fitted in easily, being as his game is based on skill. The answer is - produce more skilful players and that will attract the foreign coaches, but don't slag off the English players just because they are English as its counter-productive
The main reason English players don't go abroad is that they can earn more money here Also (a lesser reason) but I think the Premiership is more fun to play in
Supported England right up until it was quite clear these players are not interested in representing their country with any pride or passion. Which was clear to me around the time we didn't make Euro 2008. Jack Wilshere had a bit part in the WC and was far dire than Gerrard which is really sting something. Lallana is a good average player nothing more, and certainly not worth 25 million!! Anyone who thinks Brendan Rodgers has spent wisely on distinctively average players is off their rocker! That isn't their fault but doesn't make it not true!
