Here something of interest the English League All Time League Table... Barnsley top, Bristol City 15th, Bristol Rovers 58th and Man Utd 52nd.... http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/all-time-table/full
There's some names to play with... Gainsborough Trinity.. Darwen.. Nelson.. Bootle.. New Brighton Trinity.. Glossop North End... All ex league sides......
Something wrong with that. eg Newport County only played 42 league games? Man U and Liverpool with only just over a point a game?
You've got me thinking now, could it be total games played at 2nd tier level (Championship) only....?
It's for the second tier league only, Barnsley have spent the past 70 years not going below it with the odd flirt in the top tier hence why they are the top club. Man U have played most of their stuff in the top tier with the odd drop down to the second tier.
The forerunner of Leeds United. I think they folded or were booted out of the League around 1920 ish due to financial irregularities. Reformed as Leeds United.
Barnsley in bottom two leagues for about 20 years in total. Before World War 2 bounced in and out of the old Third North and then had 20 years in Divs 3 & 4 between 1960 - 1980. But have spent more seasons in second tier than any other team. amazing isn't it for a poxy little mining village! Oh yes and don't forget they won the FA Cup in 1912
