English Championship big guns QPR in bid for Livingston teenager Coll Donaldson
    31 Dec 2013 07:42

HARRY Redknapp cast his eye over the defender during a trial last week and has now made a £150,000 bid for the Lions' 18-year-old star.

QPR have made a bid of around £150,000 for Livingston starlet Coll Donaldson.

Loftus Road gaffer Harry Redknapp had the stopper, 18, on a seven-day trial last week and was so impressed that the Championship side are now in discussions with Livi over a January transfer.

Redknapp has jumped to the head of the queue for Donaldson, who is also being tracked by Manchester United and a host of other English clubs.

Old Trafford scout Martin Ferguson watched him in action against Raith on Saturday but QPR are now favourites to land him.

Donaldson is a Scotland Under-19 international and one of the country’s most promising kids.

He’s a regular at Livi and was invited for a trial with Manchester United last January. Ferguson followed up the Red Devils’ interest but Redknapp expects to snare Donaldson first.

This would be good business: young, promising and cheap.

As per my comments elsewhere, this is one for the future. Too much expectation on him and the crowd on his back when he makes an error could be counter productive. Youth is fine but we do need tried and tested too in a promotion bid.

or he could come in do what Januzai and that Everton kid did. No one had heard of them 6 months ago and they look top class.
Yes I know this kid isnt in the same league but neither are the opposition when you think the league leaders striker is David bloody Nugent.

Its only a problem when theres just him with no alternative.

Fair point if the LR faithful understand that and don't put the kid under too much pressure.

Coming into a successful side when the opportunity arises will build confidence, throwing any youngster "in the deep end"/"to the wolves" will just put a young player back.
We don't see young players "blooded" in to games from the bench enough any more. Big shame.
That said we do seem to have some very promising young players in the youth team, it would be great to see them coming through (Hitchcock, Petrusso, Furlong...)

I don't see him playing in the first team immediately, but in a year or two's time could be just the job. They might even agree a buy and loan back deal which would suit both clubs...

I think the crowd for the most part are good on on players. The only disgrace I can remember was Cernys debut and the singing for Camp 5 mins in.

You can play him for a couple of games we should win, drop him to the bench for a few or send him back to the EDS for a few weeks. I agree you dont want to play him every game for the rest of the season.

This guy is a cb but I have no problem with Yun at LB, has BAE really been worth the extra 50k+ a week in wages?

He's been good but surely we needed help in other areas first.

I do really think that we might be playing with more vigour if we had some very young players, especially our own grown ones. I wish we could see what Hitchcock could do. And look at the way Tom Carroll plays for us. Yes he's lightweight but you can't question his effort. Compare him to some of the older, stronger and more experienced players who look sluggish at the moment.
