Nowhere near for me, works hard but not much more. Whats the point of working hard if you go missing in games anyway
Also, we need to look at Terry if we are thinking of winning it, Jagielka would be better there, he is quicker and a better passer of the ball (that ball would not of been over the line as Jagielka would of been there quicker than Terry) also Cole needs a kick up the arse and remind him Baines is itching to put the number 3 shirt on. All in all Hodgson has a golden chance of doing this, just hope he does not **** it up.
I have always claimed Terry is ****. But then so is Lescott, Jagielka isn't good enough to be in a very good national side. Thats the issue with England at the moment, all of the CBs are **** and it doesn't look like its getting any better with youngsters coming through.
Josh, we are not a very good national side, so you have to "piss with the cock you have" Jagielka would do a job in there, Terry is too slow(plus he's a t***) and he will upend someone in the box if we keep progressing in this tournament.
I'm sorry but England's defence is the weakness yet Hodgson is playing as if its their strength, all I'm saying is there all pretty bad and I think that includes Jagielka. He's alright but nowhere near good enough for a side trying to win the Euros or even come close for that matter. Atleast Terry will command the defence
This is the bottom line of it, we are a competent top 10 team but outside the top 5 by a margin. Part of the problem are players who are getting paid £100k+ a week believing that they are actually better then they are. Stats after each match regarding chances and possession Sweden had 52% possession and 15 shots to our 12 and 3 corners each. Ukraine had 57% possession and 16 shots to our 9 and 10 corners to 6 in their favour They haven't printed the France game stats apart from quarterly hour possession break downs where twice we had 69% and 70% against us. You can't go through a whole tournament getting away with being outplayed or looking the lesser quality team.
The interesting thing about our defence is that someone, possibly u no hoo ex ManUre, has reminded them not to tackle when a player gets in the box unless there's no other option. This is ensuring that we don't give away penalties & players are staying on their feet trying to ease forwards wide of the goal. Terry may not be as quick or as good as he was, but he still gets stuck in & his goalline "save" showed that he's not that bad. Ristac, on one level the stats don't look good. But have you considered that Hodgson may be playing a system where we defend deap & then hit them on the break? It working so far. It might well work against the Italians as well. But if we get to the semis & either Germany or Spain, we will definitely need to pres further up the pitch. On Milner, he's not played well so far. But he does still have two good feet & as such can cross from either side. I also think he's useful as a starting player to allow the glamour players to come on 2nd half fit, fresh, raring to go to take on a slightly more tired defence. Walcott & Chamberline still have to work on their defensive duties. Walcott in particular is a bit of a lightweight. That said, he's a bit good going forward.
In fairness it wasn't the whole tournament although yes, they certainly were outplayed by a margin for the last three games. We have been outplayed three times so far, we have three more matches to go if we want to win it. Yes I would take the win and 6 games of being totally outplayed but either way, the quality of English football is looking further behind the top teams each and every tournament while the gap behind us closes. Yes he might be playing that way but no excuse for players not to be able to hold on to the ball against the likes of Sweden and Ukraine. Some of our passing was awful. Oh and Terry never actually saved it, he was marginally too late and too slow, it was a quite amazing mistake by the 4th official standing on the line.
Good point with those stats Ristac <thumb> Hodgson is going to have to change it sooner or later, as there is possibly one more match for Scott Parker then he is totally burnt out, Milner-- i have said my piece about him, going to be interesting how he plays it old Roy of the Rovers....lol
On the news this morning they were talking of England taking penalty practice sessions. I know we should always start with our strongest team but I wondered: With the chance of extra time could Parker last 120 minutes then if we did make it through, would he be 100% fit for the semi's? Would Rooney last 90 minutes not alone 120 and he is another penalty taker. I wouldn't fancy seeing Defoe or Carroll taking a penalty. Would it be worth England starting with Parker and Rooney on the bench, put a couple of the quicker players on to start with, turning the Italians and running them out of the game, maybe introduce Rooney and Parker after 70 minutes depending on the scoreline?
Milner has to play cos Johnson is god awful at defending! N Walcott wouldn't help back up. It all stems from him not picking Micah Richards! Richards n Walcott would be fine cos Richards can cope with Walcott losing his man
Morning all Totally agree, I've been calling for someone better than Terry for a while and regarding Cole I think he's too complacent expecting to be picked every time as the LB is such a specialist position which we don't have much strength in depth on. I've liked Bridge in the past but he's gone backwards since the Terry affair so perhaps its effected him more than people thought, either way it gives Cole a free run at LB which is unhealthy as he annoys me at times when he's miles out of position and were exposed down the left
We've not been outplayed, we've stuck to a game plan and it's worked! I think we're much better than people give us credit for, just because we don't play the same possession based football as teams like Spain and Germany doesn't mean we're worse (well, we are worse than Spain and Germany, but that's not my point). Holland are already out without a single point and we finished comfortably above France in the group but people will still bang on about how we're not up to the standard of those teams just because we play a different style of football. Football is about playing to your strengths, which we've done to great effect so far. As for Milner I think he's been fine, done exactly what's been asked of him and far from our worst player so far (step forward Mr. Young...).
Hi Simon, i hopr these f*****s out here have not been showing me a different game to you lads back in Ol Blighty, BUT we have been out played totally on the TV i have been watching, could not string 5 passes together in the oppositions half, pumpimg the ball up field to Wellbeck & Young, and Wellbeck & Looney who are not the tallest men in the team (cough--Carrol) Milner puts a good shift in, but does not achieve anything plus i am a believer of, if a player cannot get in his club side then should not be picked for country
