It's the Kiplingcoates Derby today, England's oldest horse race, does anyone go and watch it? It's been run every year since 1519, from Kiplingcoates to a farm near Market Weighton, it's a four mile course of fields, tracks and roads and it sounds quite a laugh. There seems a to be a fair amount of drinking involved. please log in to view this image
I went a couple of years ago - the pubs in Market Weighton were fairly busy and you can put bets on at the finishing post. Free shuttle bus from Market Weighton too. Sponsored by Jackson's. The winner gets a trophy, and some money, 2nd place gets more prize money than the winner and the rest get a loaf of Jackson's Yorkshire Champion Bread.
I nearly clipped an old duffer at this last year after he stepped into the road whilst everyone else stepped off. He gave us the V's and now I can't go in his son's pub.
