After the disappointment and uselessness of the England team in the recent World Cup I settled down this evening to hopefully watch a new and exciting England team destroy the mighty Norway. It's halftime and I've switched it off. What a boring load of twaddle it is. Probably end 8 - 0 now. Norway are hardly interested in getting out of their half and England are not slick enough to break down the wall. They have a real match in anger next Monday apparently. I'll have to watch it but will it be worth it.....

A penalty was the only way England could of won this game......It was certainly the only thing that Rooney did in the time he was on the pitch......just managed to rustle up 40,000 crowd .....every one a sucker for punishment so it seems.

Sad thing is I was staying in Wembley last week and if it had been this week would probably have indulged myself and son in law with a ticket for this. Phew.....lucky escape.

I'm not one for friendlies as a rule but in the absence of anything else worth watching I do give them a go. If it proves to be a bore by halftime then that is usualy enough for me and I switch it off. This one was about as exciting as watching a jelly set so off it went. Usual huff and puff and little else. Individually these players are worth their shirt but collectively, which is how they have to play, they are as effective as striking a match on the jelly. Monday should be a hoot.

Unfortunately i watched all of it!! As you all say complete useless.. I thought a new era was about to start with all the young players.. Clueless..

I some how think w will struggle to make the big tournaments in the future.. who else have we to pick? The german game was more entertaining as i watched the highlights...

It seems that Joe public agreed with you all as most tuned into "The Great British Bake off" I flicked over to see the score and then flicked over just as quickly !

I eat cake I don't ever bake it. I'm very good at eating cake and infact if it was an Olympic event I might just win a medal.

I don't mind England being bad per say (as a Pompey fan, I'm used to terrible football) but it's the fact that the players all all overpaid, overrted, egotistical primadonas which annoys me. A great example of this is Mark Clattenberg telling Adam Lallana that he changed since he started playing for England. A sentiment not shared by Southampton fans at the time, but his actions over the summer made them realise Mark was right all along. Also, the fact that player selections are so obviously based on who someone plays for (or doesn't play for) rather than their form or even if they are getting any games. Not to mention the fact that Rooney, who is a terrible player with a terrible attitude, has been made captain. He's a terrible role model for kids.

I find it ironic that the media demanded an English manager and he turned out to be terrible. Just like they demanded an English manager after Ericsson and he was terrible (although I think McLaren is a decent manager overall but perhaps not suited for managing the egos that constitute the England squad).Interestingly our three worst tournament performances in the 21st century have been under English managers: Euro 2000, Euro 2008, World Cup 2014

Not totally wrong Pompey, some of the players obviously have talent but I have no idea why Rooney is anywhere close to the England team. Yes, he has scored a few goals but there are plenty of others to replace him- get rid of ALL of the old guard and start again with young skillful attacking players who haven't been scarred by previous failures. I don't mind 'uncle roy' as the manager; the obvious pick is Brendan Rogers but I don't want Liverpool to lose him!

Roy Hodgson is a boring bloke but it doesn't make him a bad manager because of it. He has tremendous experience and a pretty decent CV in football. There is a good deal of talent in the England squad but my beef for a long time has been that millionaires don't have the same drive as hungry players. Passion is lacking and it is that that you see in lesser squads like Wales for example. They have a go against all the odds and play like it means something. Half the team aren't premiership players or getting paid anywhere near what the England squad get weekly. I also agree with the "overrated" comment. 1 - 0 against Norway thanks to a pen is not exactly a glowing endorsement of their talents is it. So they don't seem to want it enough or have the talent needed to be winners as a unit. Ok individually but nowhere near a team. To be honest matches involving them bore the pants off me most times.

What a difference a couple of days make. I stuck with it tonight even if not that impressed by halftime. I thought England were worth their 3 points but oh how they contrived to give the ball away when still only one up. Some of the stuff was ignoring the most basic things and to be honest they looked like they were soiling their shorts out there at times. I think it's a good job they have this 3 points and have beaten the hardest side in their mini league because if they had to play anyone remotely harder than the Swis then I would still fear for their qualification. Is it just me that gets bored stiff watching England these days and who can't get excited about any of it? Not impressed but a great result nonetheless.

You aren't the only one to feel that way Sensible and how they can make captain a player who verbally attacks the fans its totally beyond me ! Trouble is they all seem to believe their own hype ! Players who feel its an honour to wear the England shirt should be the only ones in the team, how many of those type of players are in the current team ?????

Some of the younger ones maybe but when players like Lampard hung up their international boots I would have been tempted to clean out all of the squad and start again from nil. Despite their wealth I think some like Lampard and Gerrard as well were quite proud to play for country. I've always thought Rooney was a bit of an oaf. I think somebody told him to listen to the old pro's and he took that literally........boom boom. The problem is they tell these players they play in the best league in the world and they believe they are actually the best players. News flash.....it's the foreign players who make it not the English.

There's very little point in criticising the manager when he has such a small pool of players to choose from. Not so long ago we were blessed with a surfeit of good (or at least reasonable) quality defenders but had no creativity at all further forward. Now we have a glut of quick tricky wide players but it's hard to think of an English centre back playing anywhere in the Premier League who isn't already in the England squad.

The problem my friends is not the manager, not the players we do have in the squad but the Premier League itself. A good number of British (never mind English) players to be on the pitch at the average Premier League game is 3 or 4. Manchester City v Chelsea would have one if Hart's playing and Manchester United are going the same way.

People have been saying this for a long while now notdistant but as usual the FA have their ear plugs in and aint going to listen anytime soon. Money. The root of all things bad when there is too much of it sloshing about. I'm not so sure the premier league is even the best in the world now either but it sure knows how to turn a dollar. As long as money is thrown at clubs then they are going to buy their success and not grow it themselves. I don't agree ref the players though. I think they really do think they are great and are too comfortable financially. Just because somebody overpays them makes them believe their own hype. Most of the English players are no more than average and they should put their feet back on the ground again.

I think all the international football is over rated? not many players look interested? Watched some bits of the Dutch game in the first half.. even more boring than England... Now they have just scored as i type this HA

The Dutch squad in the world cup at least looked like they wanted to be there and have a go.
