Lots of gripes about England from me at the moment, the manager, the players. you name it. The performances at the World Cup were shocking. Our main hope for the future for me seems to be Wilkshere form Arsenal, maybe they can build a team around him. The trouble is at the moment is that the Old Guard of Lampard, Terry, Gerrard, Barry etc. needs clearing out and we need a manager with balls to do it.
Capello needs to have the balls to drop Rooney and try something different. My choice would be Carroll and Defoe up front together.
Carroll is another good one for the future with Wilkshere. I think Rooney would be better with a different manager, but his attitude is annoying sometimes, like when he had a go at the fans that time when they were expressing their valid opinion of the perfomance.
The England side just doesn't seem to have that much competition really, nowhere near as much as it should! We need more young players, and more pressure on players to deliver to keep their places. A worrying amount of the current England squad aren't playing every week for their club sides also. I wonder how long it takes for England to start selecting players regularly from the second tier? Theres been a couple before (Rob Green for example), but not many. Anyone think of any current championship players who might make the grade?
I think the sooner Barry and Glen Johnson are exposed for being the god-awful players they are and dropped from the team, the better. We have a lot of promise in our (very) youngsters, and they need experience
Alex chamberlain? He will be genius, as long as he makes the right moves along the way. Also Dale Jennings at trammere looks like one for the future. You can also just simply rely on the amazing youth system at Southampton to kindly supply the national team with a mix of incredibly talented players
The england team should be demolished and rebuilt. I would bring in the following rules 1, It doesnt matter what position you are in if you cant pass a ball you dont get in the team- 2, Must always play at least 1 centre half who has pace at all times 3, if you ever pull out of a midweek international game, but manage to play for your club on the weekend then your band for life from the england team. 4, not playing everyweek of the season before an international tournements isnt a bad thing, I would rather play someone who has managed 30 games that season than someone who has played 60. 5, If you cant keep possesion you dont keep your place. 6, No player who spends the first 30 minutes chasing the ball madly and the rest of the game knackerd will get a place. 7, No matter how long you leave the gap between their caps some players will never offer anything different to what has not being good enough before Ie Wright phillips, Defoe, Heskey etc. 8, bringing on any striker who happens to be over 5'10 doesnt give anyone the right to just hit long balls up to him even if they are useless in the air Eg Crouch, Bent. anyone like to add any more?
9 Just because Liverpool/Man City bought you for a ludicrous amout of money, doesn't mean you are any good
Get rid of Capello. Get rid of Barry. Get rid of Glen Johnson. Get rid of Terry and Lampard. And get rid of Umbro.
I would like to point out it's WILSHERE not wilkshire We should get rid of most of the england squad and have this team..... -----------------Hart Richards--Rio--Jagz---Gibbs -------Rodwell----Frimpong --Wilshere--------------Rooney ---------Defoe----Bent FACT
Stop entering tournaments. It's the only way. This has always been a problem. I remember the 70s when we couldn't even qualify. Thankfully, the Tartan Army disgraced themselves by spitting on their own players in Argentina so we didn't miss much. Getting rid of players ain't gonna do it. Youngsters ain't gonna do it. Our football produces the best league but doesn't work internationally. The last time we got to a semi was when Bobby Roibson changed to a continental system after struggling through the group. Again. Ballack said when a German goes up to take a penalty he's thinking of national glory. When an Englishman goes up he's thinking tabloid headlines and national disgrace, ending with doing pizza ads alongside Stuart Pierce and Gareth Southgate. It's a question of national character. We won the first Fair Play award. Stiff upper lip, decency, build 'em up, knock 'em down when they get too full of themselves. That's us. Could you ever see the regular winners of the World Cup winning it and winning the Fair Play award? Italy? Argentina? Pth, whatever it takes is how they play. Even the beautifully silky Spanish don't consider it cheating if it gets you an advantage.
An England fan slagging off the Tartan Army. Who've been well behaved since the 1980's and are along with Sweden and the Dutch fans the most liked in the world. please log in to view this image
