Watching the England game tonight I was unimpressed, and got thinking where would England finish if they were a Premier League club. We all know that if all was well with English football the answer would be 1st. Afraid to say after watching that tonight personally I think 6th at best. Just wondered what others thought.

No system to shout of, square pegs in round holes, not a clue between them and Lampard ready for his pension. They would be lucky to finish mid table.

They wouldnt win any of the Premiership, Bundisliga, La liga, Seire A and probably ligue 1 tbh. Wouldnt know if there is any International team better then the Munichs/Barcas of this world though!

Not sure about that, England still have players like Rooney, Sturridge and Gerrard who we could only dream of ever being able to sign, but they do have some average players such as Cleverley.

Doesn't matter how good the individuals are, if the manager plays them out of position in unfamiliar tactics. England would be relegated.

I know, I was saying why I disagree with what you said, think we can all agree that England have been underachieving ever since Sven Goran Eriksson left in 2006.

Been pretty impressed with us under Hodgsons. The friendlies were disappointing but its always the same, experimental sides, players missing etc. They would be top 4-6. The top clubs in this country thouh are a collection of some of the top global players, not really gonna compete with them as those nations ou're drawing them from are better than England.

If they played regularly with each other I think they would make a decent team in the PL.

Need a couple of changes in defence - Willo for Smalling would be a good start.<sorry>
Seriously, how does Smalling get a game for England.

I think we are just generally very short at centre half. Who have we got? Cahill, Smalling, Jones, Lescott, Jagielka er.................................that's it really. Hardly a who's who in terms of top centre backs round the world.

For me I like Cahill and Jagielka as a centre back partnership and Lescott is decent, but the problems are the other aren't good enough and are Cahill and Lescott going to get enough games at club level.

Cahill and Jagielka is clearly Woy's first choice and rightly. I wouldn't do them down but neither is top class. As a partnership it lacks a bit of pace. Ferdinand and Terry may have been complete twats, but at their peak, both were far better than the current pairing. Rio was actually a very very good centre half when fit. We just lack thta bit of class. Jones has that look ab out him but he is years away from knowing the game. Him and Smalling don't even command regular football at their club. Lescott can't get a game and has limits.

Usually centre back, holding midfielder and goalkeeper were areas we have always been traditionally strong. Not now. I can't think of a world class one we have in any of those key areas. Our stength seems to be in the attacking midfield area. I think the likes of Townsend, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere, Barkley, Zaha, Sterling, Morrison, Ince, Cleverley should see us have plenty of good technical players heading forward. Even our striking department lacks depth.

Not convinced about Jones or Smalling but time will tell, always thought that Terry and Rio were a quality partnership, shame as they were both twats. For me Townsend was our best player against Germany and has been impressive since making his debut, like Oxlade-Chamberlain. Morrison, Barkley, Ince and Zaha have shown promise but haven't seen that much of them.

Dawson? If he can stay fit may be a better option than most.

Wouldn't disagree, wrote off at Tottenham when AVB arrived, stayed won him over and is now captain, that tells you something about the guy.
