I'm not dissagreeing with you BCC I'm merely pointing out that I stand corrected and the capital city of the USSR was Moscow.

Never saw the Bee Gees. Saw the Honeycombs. Nashville Terns loads of times, Stones twice, Animals, Kinks, Creation (another of my favourites), Ben E King, Arthur Conley, Unit Four Plus Two (who were surprisingly good), Manfred Mann (who were excellent), Searchers, Hollies (musically brilliant on stage) Drifters, Chris Farlowe, Beatles, The Move (who were dire), Free, Slade, and best of all Little Richard.
All of those, apart fromBen E King were in Brid or Scarborough. How times change.

Ah well I forgot about Bailey's, now here we saw Mud, Jimmy Ruffin, Labi Siffre (the only artist we have ever walked out on he was dire) Rocking Berries, Showaddywaddy, that's about all I can remember so maybe there were more. Oh and Cliff Richard ( I know) at ABC.

Thing is Chazz it was the media of the day that labelled the guy Russian not me, think I gave a tinkers cuss where he came from he had just said yes the ball had crossed the goal line that was good enough for me. And if I also remember there was some crap about the guy giving the goal because of some WW2 stuff and so he was biased. I was too busy Russian about after the game jumping with joy (she was nice LOL).

Saw all of those as well. I remember Labi Siffre stopped when someone was talking loudly and said he would like to apologise for his song interupting their conversation.

Jimmy James and the Vagabonds was another favourite. I also saw Cliff and the Shadows but in my defence was very young and went with my parents.:)

You are right about the media. They often used Russia to describe a USSR team with no Russians in it. I think some got carried away because of his Stalinesque moustache.
