Yes, the gits. A number of people I know rang up to cancel and were offered deals or six months free. So I rang up to cancel and was just told "fine, sir. I have done that for you."
I despise sky sports to be honest sickens me to see them commenting on the world cup, cant get your greedy grubby mits on that you bag of ****s mines cancelled
Going on about '66 and how we emulate that, as we are in this thread, is part of the problem. We have made one - ONE - semi final in our history that wasnt on home soil. Germany has made 13 in total and Italy eight by my reckoning. And these are our supposed rivals. It's time to accept that '66 was the anomaly and we are just absolutely s**t. How many of our players are called 'world class'? We bump them up to hero status as the best in the world - people like Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Hart and Rio. Yet all are / were absolutely f**ing miles from being anywhere near world class. Did you see Schweinsteiger on Sunday? Gerrard has never come anywhere near running a game for England the way he did and this wasnt a tin-pot game, it was the World Cup final. The simple fact is we've never been any good save for a five or six year period from the mid 60s to the early 70s and at present we havent got one single player who wouldve even made the squad for any of the semi finalists.
I wish you weren't right BCC but you are spot on. The only thing we are world class at is having unrealistic expectations.
To be fair only 7 out of the 23 players in the Germany squad play outside of Germany and that didn't seem to stop them.
And how much of the German success do you attribute to that 30% playing outside their home country? Last world cup only three members of the Spanish squad played outside of Spain, only two of those made it onto the pitch. In fact 70% of their squad played for the same three clubs. Didn't stop them from winning it.
I dont attribute any success to it, it wasnt my point raised. I was simply saying that over 30% is quite a lot compared to 0%.
Two of which didn't even make it to the world cup so comparing their world cup squads becomes a little tricky.
Why are you comparing it to zero, we had the grand total of 4% (ie. one) of our players playing outside their own country! In fact apart from England, Russia and Italy, the Germans had the most players playing in their own country so comparatively 30% is low.
Spain is another ball game because their game is extremely successful, the English game is flawed massively, so while it doesn't equate to success, players experiencing a different culture would be of benefit when was the last english star in the prem? shearer? too many players are in comfort zones in the premier league
Simple reason for both the fact we have a lot of foreigners here but few players playing abroad. There is more money sloshing about here for those who are not quite the best.
