Good squad. Think Roy has got his blend pretty much spot on. It will be interesting to see how he wants them to line up. It was vital that Barkley, Lallana, Sterling, Henderson and Shaw was in there for experience, hopefully at least three of them gets regular starts during the tournament. Love the fact that Lambert got picked, much deserved imo.
The only 2 I wouldn't want in there is Jones and Smalling. Lets remember the if Kyle Walker was fit, he'd be there, so that's one of the two I mentioned places gone.
Smalling like cleverly are only considered as they play for a high profile team, they'd have no chance if they played for WBA or stoke.
So there it is...the squad that will be dragged through the media, hyped up, slagged off and everything in between. I think Roy has done a decent job of balancing youth and experience. The defence looks a bit suspect though - not sure how Smalling gets in there?? Anyone know?
Pretty good, balanced side. The first game in Manaus is going to be a scorcher and we will need players who can pass and retain possession. Not a game for the likes of Sterling. Speed will be worth nothing in that heat. His time will come when we are playing further south.
Pretty exciting squad I think. A little worried about the relative lack of experience in defence, Cahill and Jagielka have to stay fit or we're in a bit of trouble.
I think he's picked the best squad he could but he doesn't have a lot of quality to chose from, that looks like a squad that would do well to get out of the groups.
I'm not convinced that our group is as difficult as people are suggesting and would be pretty disappointed if we didn't make it to the knock-out stages. I think we may surprise a few people this summer and make it to the last 8 at the very least.
With past teams, we expected to make it to the semis. I think the WC was a success if that squad won a single knock out match. Its just not very good. The three weakest goalies in my lifetime, at least 1/3rd of those players wouldn't have made it into a squad of 10-20 years ago. For once, I'm not going to blame the manager!
They are predicting an unseasonable heatwave further south too, temperatures in the 30s/90s thanks to El Niño.
Great to see the kids but if Cahill gets injured we are stuffed, Jones, Smalling should never be there. Strangely as commented on before they are only there because they play for big club but both had nightmare seasons!!!!! Clint should count himself unlucky if these two clowns are in before him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also think we are too lightweight up top too......... Wellbeck, Sturridge too similar and not a fan of either. Sturridge scored 21 Premiership goals but he missed a hatfull as well and is a greedy so and so. He wont get the amount of ball he does with Liverpool and I can see him disappearing from games.
"Sturridge scored 21 Premiership goals but he missed a hatfull as well and is a greedy so and so. He wont get the amount of ball he does with Liverpool and I can see him disappearing from games." Don't disagree with you here but I think Welbeck is even more likely to go that way tbh.
To be honest, I think it's as good a squad as we have available. Whatever, we should get behind them, I know I will. British by birth, English by the grace of God.
