In the old days, they played a lot less test matches. It would be interesting to see the comparison of how many games played for that result.
Surprisingly similar. Benaud took 248 wickets in 63 Tests, whist Lyon has reached 250 in his 68th Test. For a modern-day comparison, Graeme Swann took 255 in 60 Tests.
Good finish brewing at Headingley. First innings Windies heroes Brathwaite and Hope going well again, needing another 196 to win off 57 overs.
Joe Root might be a good run maker but he has a lot to learn about his captain's role. Should never have declared. Now the Windies could win the series!
At least it wasn't the tedious defensive safety first stuff we've seen from other captains. We lost because of poor bowling and fielding. Great to see a five day Test go to beyond 6.30 on the last day, well done the Windies, and a huge achievement for Hope S.
I always like an attacking captain who has the balls to make a proactive decision and go for it. Downside, sometimes it may come back to haunt you but at least he has attempted to create an opportunity to win, rather than a bored draw. I say, good luck to him.
Contrast the fantastic game at Headingley with what happened in Pembrokeshire last weekend http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/wales/41074513
Surely the League could overturn the result under a 'match fixing' rule, they have thrown the match to win the league. Whatever the outcome they have brought the game into disrepute. It does happen in the county game where teams declare to deny the opponent a bonus point but that is only one or two points at the most and usually where there is no chance of a result but this was blatant...
The Banglas are no mugs in their own back yard these days, as we found out last time. But any defeat for the Aussies is welcome...
