The West African nation are the current African Cup of Nations champions, and many of the side play for major European clubs, including 11 in England. Star player, former Liverpool and now Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane, didn’t make the World Cup because of a knee injury, but the Lions of Teranga still scored goals and encouragingly, for them, from positions all over the pitch. Gareth Southgate has described them as "a very dangerous team". This is only their second World Cup, the previous two in 2002 and 2018, and they have reached the quarter-finals once before in Japan, eventually losing to Turkey. Watch out for Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and club teammate Kalidou Koulibaly, who captains his country. And in the absence of the injured Mane, there has been a greater expectation placed on the Watford forward, Ismaila Sarr. His only goal so far has come via a coolly taken penalty, having won the spot-kick himself, and he has the pace and movement to trouble any opposition. England will go into the match favourites, but Senegal feel the pressure is off them, and know they have the ability to win the match. Without doubt, Senegal will be the toughest team England have faced in the tournament so far.

Is Diedhou playing today as it will be interesting to see him at international level? After watching France and Mbappe demolish Poland I really can't see us beating them (him) if we should beat Sengal later today. I am just having my second cup of coffee before sitting down on a bright sunny day here on the west coast hoping for the best for England, but I don't expect us to make it easy for ourselves especially if we start playing the boring backwards and forward football. What's up with Sterling or is he just pissed off at lack of game time? In my books he hasn't got enough to play at this level, and he has lost most of what brought him to prominence. Come on England show us the real thing for once and if you should win you will face an onslaught in the next match.
Fannying at the back does my head in, so easy for the opposition to get into shape. Knocking long getting them turning it's a different game.

I'm with you 100% on the fannying around at the back reddprint and it drives me crazy when the ball goes to either Maguire or Walker as I know for sure it will go backwards almost every time. If you were to look at the statistics for the time we spend on the ball in our half it would be shockin and I regret to tell them the opponent's goal is at the other end of the pitch. We won comfortably today however the style we play is a recipe for disaster against the likes of France because Mbappe will eat both Maguire and Walker alive as they don't have the pace to stop him if he goes around them, and he will. England will need to cut off the supply to Mbappe by controlling the midfield because that's where most threats will build, and so it's up to Southgate to arrange the team to play and beat France at their own game. Good luck on that front boys and polish your best boots to take us closer to home with hardware.
Was rubbish first 35 mins until we scored. (Maguire was shocking in that time). Then we controlled the game. Bellingham, Henderson & Foden stood out for me.. even Kane had his best game of the tournament by far.. France will be the proper test......dare I say it.....................I fancy our chances!!
France are definitely favourites. Yet arguably only 2 or 3 of the French would get in the England team.
Ha! I missed that bit - I was on the Swindon to Bristol TM train at that time. I only saw the good bits!! Spent the evening at the Knights Templar Wetherspoon with family (we use that place as our regular meeting place for Bristol, WSM and Exeter-based family) - they were showing the game in there.
