I thought Italy were poor and there for the taking however we lacked the quality needed. Neither Italy nor England have a chance of winning on that performance. I still felt we played quite well, Rooney on £300k a week is scary, yes out of position for the first half but if he isn't our best striker (which he isn't) then why try and squeeze him into the team. I can see the plane being booked home after our next match
Do I need to make my feelings known Result as expected. An average Liverpool team oh sorry England I meant. For some reason I thought England might be better. After all Italy are hardly favourites to win it out
Rooney and every pass has to be over 50 yards Gerrard were a ****ing disgrace. Both should never play again.... Wellbeck is a lazy Cnut. Hodgeson is a rabbit in the headlights, but we already knew this.
I actually thought it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, there were some half decent attacks in there and we caused them more problems than I think they did us. A draw probably would've been a fairer result and considering the youth of the team there is something there for the future but only if we get rid of Roy Hodgson imo. and get someone like Roberto Martinez (not him specifically but someone who wants the game played the right way but definitely someone who is very aware of the english game). I think some individuals played quite poorly like Baines, Rooney and Welbeck and I wouldn't be disappointed to see any of them if not all three dropped for the next game although I'd still probably just stick with Baines. I also think if we are going to play that formation (which I'm happy for us to play) then we need to pick the best player for each position rather than pick our best players and fit them in, its a habit which Hodgson has always been known for. Rooney is not very good down the left and Lallana imo. is more effective there so play him instead, Rooney is a striker and should stick to that position and unfortunately for him Sturridge is in far better form at the moment so he should miss out. The same applies for Welbeck.
Have to agree, I would have stared with Sturridge and had Rooney on the bench, I believe we have took the best squad possible, I can't think of anyone back home who should now be in Brazil. Can you believe Barkley played for us last season, shocking to think we sent him back.
Lucky for him we did send him back. A few months plying his trade with our shower and he wouldn't have been considered for any World Cup squad
I thought it was a good game. England and Italy were both decent and after Uruguay's woeful effort it will be Italy and England who progress. Sterling was excellent on the night, Wellbeck worked hard and Sturridge grew in confidence after his goal. I would play Barkley ahead of Henderson as he is more dynamic and will offer a much much more attacking threat to open defences up with. Rooney and Gerrard both had poor games , bit complacent defensively at tines but all in all a good foundation to build for the next two. Don't underestimate that Italy performance, they are a serious side and any team will find them tough to beat , in the group stage you do what you have to do to get out and Italy did just that without being spectacular it was very solid by both sides. You's will get out of the group and i hope to see Barkley shine more.
Erm ... Italy were anything but poor ... Pirlo gave Henderson and Gerrard a lesson in midfield play, all that happened was once Balotelli scored Italy were happy to sit back ... in truth if Italy wanted to turn it on they could have, but they didn't need to stretch themselves in the second half and were able to conserve energy ... very smart and professional performance from Italy, England for all their pace struggled to keep possession, a must at this level ... Rooney showed his quality with a stunning cross, but besides that he was anonymous, in fact it was a very Luke Varney like performance ... Hodgson missed a trick by not taking Matt Smith along "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
This was an Italian team that hadn't won for 7 matches not counting playing against a club side in a warm up, they didn't look anything special to me and they were there for the taking. I thought they were poor for an Italian team
Gerrard and Rooney were poor yesterday. Sturridge, Welbeck and especially Sterling will terrify any defence with them running at them
Friendlies are just that friendlies, they won there group by 6 points in qualifiers and they finished 3rd in the confederations cup last year I think.
Do you not know any English sayings in Yorkshire. It basically means if your not involved mind your nose.
