http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32040304 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32045238 Article about a potential bid, after previously saying we wouldn't ever again while Blatter was in charge. Thoughts?
FIFA would have far fewer problems if we were putting on the WC, but we were cheated out of contention. Not saying we should have got it, but their choice was appalling, so why should we put on a show for them. The millions spent on an application would be better used supporting grass roots football. It can be more fun being a guest than a host anyway.
They do still say that "not while Blatter is in charge' and the 'would consider' was followed in his interview that I saw, with an IF David Gil could convince them that I would fair ... that in itself is a huge dig at Blatter and saying that we (the FA) think he is a crook. I don't se it as a U-turn, just another chance to dig at Blatter. I don't like Dyke and I don't like Blatter.
Agree with pretty much all of that. Don't really dislike Dyke though, disagree with alot of his proposals but at least he's trying to do something. Blatter will get re-elected anyway so this is a bit of a non-starter for me. If we don't bid then I hope USA get it. 2030 is already been agreed to be in Uruguay hasn't it?
England to have competition from an unlikely nation? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9783436/kazakhstan-set-to-bid-for-2026-world-cup I've checked their national stadium n it's smaller than St Marys!
I think we should have nothing to do with it...just be ready to spit in FIFA's eye if they need someone to get them out of a hole as I suspect they are looking now to give the 2026 WC to a war zone, an earthquake epicentre or some other unsuitable venue.
There was an article in the Economist that basically led to the conclusion that only undemocratic countries will be able to run the World Cup and the Olympics in future. Free countries have finally worked out that events like these return much, much less cash than they cost so they are becoming unpopular. In the meantime, anyone wanting a vanity project in an undemocratic nation bids and doesn't care how much it costs; the benefit is in legitimacy. Vin
