    England squad
Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Joe Hart (Manchester City).

Defenders: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal).

Same old faces from our Spineless manager that allegedly picks players on form and not reputation or the club they play for?
The only exception in that squad is Drinkwater, but im pretty sure if Wilshire was fit he wouldnt be in.

How can Wellbeck get the nod over Deeney whos been outstanding this season and Defoe.
We also have Milner ahead of Noble(whos never had a cap), and Rose over Aaron Cresswell and Lallana over Antonio.

Until Saggy chops steps down or gets sacked over what will probably be another Euro flop i will not be supporting my country!

Rose has been decent, Milner is okay, But Noble is a funny one, so dependable for west ham for donkeys years

The thing with the england set up is that the same old get picked over and over again regardless of form, which is why i can never see us winning anything

Yes i agree about Rose being decent but not as good as Cresswell has been.
Milner is just an average player in my opinion. Jack of all trades master of none. How Noble has never had a Cap is a travesty!
Lallana has also been decent in spurts aswell but not as good as Antonio.

Rooney will walk straight back into the squad aswell when hes fit so the likes of Deeney and Defoe have no chance!

These are friendly games coming up, surely a time to try different players that deserve recognition!

A good team is made up of those players who blend and play as an outfit. Reputation and club form stand for nowt if the player is a square peg in the manager's planning. The outcome of the Euros will be the time to judge.

You mean like Vardy playing out on the wing in his last game for England just to accomodate Rooney who played upfront with Kane.
Whats the point in picking a player just for the sake of picking him and then playing him out of position??
As it stands now in the Euros Kane and Vardy have to start and Rooney should be on the bench. We all know Saggy chops has not got the balls to do that though!

Vardy will be stuck out on the wing again. Waste of time. May as well not take him

Kevin Phillips had the same problem when he got called up for England. Glenn Hoddle played him on the right wing.
Although hed only be my 4 choice striker behind Vardy, Kane and Sturridge Rooney is a guaranteed starter alongside Kane.

We could go on forever about players in out of position set ups but I am trusting in Hodgson who has not let us down so far. Since we qualified for the Euros he has obviously been experimenting. Rooney has got the talent to play as a second striker or provider, but either way he will probably be double marked for others to utilise space he creates.

Rooney is injured yet remains the subject of the thread!

Much bigger travesties have occurred here, like Walker and Walcott being included.

What's Danny Simpson got to do to get a call up?

Why is Ward Prowse continually overlooked for an ineffective Henderson?

What has Sturridge ever done for England? Forget Welbeck he scores for fun for England, Sturridge is a half-fit cripple and shouldn't be anywhere near that side.

Antonio and Lingards recent performances have pissed all over Theo ****cott.

Apart from the embarrassment of the 2014 World Cup. Timid manager, timid tactics.

I used to love watching England but I find it very difficult to summon up any interest anymore. There seems to be a general air of half-heartedness about the whole set-up. Its not helped by uninspired, and uninspiring, team selections but for me the biggest thing is the lack of characters in the squad. Where are the Terry Butchers, Iain Wrights, Stuart Pearces, or even David Beckhams? Maybe such characters don't exist in football anymore.

As I saw it Hodgson had a choice of taking a bunch of elderly players such as Terry, and others for one last go, or a mix of youth and experience to give the youngsters time at the highest level under trying conditions. If anything I would say he took a pragmatically brave decision with maybe this year's Euros and 2018 WC in mind. We'll see how they pan out.
