I'll include Sunderland in this thread as it's a fairly neutral topic and worth sharing for more responses.

So, what do you think the England squad will look like in 6 years time, once the 'oldies' of our current team have since gone?

    Personally, I'd go with this:

    ---------------Hart----------------
    Walker -- Jones -- Smalling -- Baines/Gibbs*
    -------------Rodwell---------------
    -------Milner ------ Wilshere--------
    Chamberlain- Rooney - Sturridge-----

Some of those young players (in fact, most of them) are already good enough to be pushing into the England squad, so I think with another 6 years of experience under their belts (when most of them will have reached their peak) they will be even better.

I'd also expect these players to be pushing for appearances and starts:

    Walcott
    Johnson
    Welbeck
    Richards
Steven Taylor? (if he gets over his injury woes, stays in form and adds another 6 years of experience, who knows)
    Lennon
    Carroll?

Plus any other top youngsters who have yet to appear, but will over the next 5/6 years.

    How about you?

McEacheran (sp?) will be there instead of Milner I reckon.

Leighton Baines will be 33 by then, hopefully there will be a younger better LB than him by then.

Baines will be pretty old by then, and I'm not sure he will be good enough to command the place over younger players.

    Edit: Alfie <grr>

Defenders tend to be able to keep it up until they're older than most, so I think he may cut it.

My worry, however, is that we would probably have to see a top left back getting some attention within the next year or two, as if he's very young, he may still not be deemed old enough for starts in 5/6 years time. Even a 16 year old star left back today would only be 22 by then.

Edit: Gibbs is a potential one yeah. I almost forgot about him so I've added him in.

Knowing the way the FA works it'll be the same as it is now but, with Beckham as player/coach.
They have these big ideas about bringing in the young players but, it's the same old players who fooked us in South Africa still.

Speedo's legacy as Welsh manager is that in 6 years time, our team will be the same as now (pretty much), except without Bellamy.

As for England, I'd imagine whoever is in charge will either pick a team similar to the OP's, or the players who play today but they claim bring 'experience' to the team.

McEachran will definately be in there IMO, and Barkley (I think that's what he's called) from Everton looks like he could be great. I think it could actually be quite an exiting side.

Any Newcastle player that moves to Liverpool ends up getting dropped from the England team.

Let that be a lesson to you all.

TBH I feel sorry for both players, yes I know they are making a fortune but I cant help thinking that they both must be unhappy, loved and happy one minute then a laughing stock, or just about the next.
