Not having Rio in the squad is convenient as we know he doesnt get along with Terry, yet I would of rather of had Rio <doh>

The strikers are a joke. where is Holt? Stewart Downing takes the biscuit

    I didn't even notice Downing! <laugh>
How the hell can he justify that selection?!

When's he going to reveal the real squad?

I don't think it's too surprising tbh. It's more about what he does with the squad on the pitch that counts.

Despite his indifferent start Carroll has looked a handful in the last couple of games and if he keeps that up he could be useful in Europe.

That should get the thread up & running. <laugh>

    Shame about Lennon though.

I'm disappointed for Lennon, Spurf, but that squad's a brainfart.
It's got nothing to do with form or even a team that's actually played some games, as many of them have been squad players this season or just ****e.

Glen Johnson is in, Micah Richards and Kyle Walker are out?
Really, Roy? Going for the early pay-off, then?

What exactly has Micah Richards done to England managers. If fit, I would have Walker ahead of him but it's close. Johnson and Jones are far inferior to both. I just don't get it.

Number of responses shows the current interest in the England team.

A few years back, before the (so-called) golden generation, there was a serious club/country debate. I for one, as a patriot, would very much support everything England. Unfortunately the antics, performances and general apathy of the players (more so than our foreign managers actually) has rather undermined that enthusiasm.

This squad does not help, and does not add to my enthusiasm! There still are players that get picked regardless of current performance, previous England performances and whether they can fit into the same team (and I think there are players that are international players and not all club players make the transition and its not only about ability). Rooney gets a place even though he might only get one game and will play regardless of how well (or not) other strikers do in the two previous games. What did he do in South Africa to suggest he deserves a place here? Crouch is more deserving of a place than him, his international scoring record is brilliant, don't buy this 'only scores against weaker teams' rubbish, the rest of the team don't score against anyone! I would also rather have taken Grant Holt than Rooney, who scores lots of goals in a relatively weaker team (I also don't believe in taking youngsters for the sake of it, A O-C anyone?) At least Holt would be more likely to *try* than these undroppable lot. Also taking JT is bound to be disruptive, and I don't think he merits his place on recent performances either!

I assume Walker beens left out due to injury, young player of the year so even Roy can't be that daft, can be?

I've always said this job will be too big, too high profile and show up roys weakness and if that is the type of squad he believes is good enough to make an impact at the euros then he is either a genius or going to look stupid.

Hope for his and the country sakes he is a genius!

Just to confirm,,Defoe, Wellbeck and carroll are expected to lead the line and score the goals due to rooney being suspended for the first two games.

    I could laugh!

Actually, lets not to be too hasty, walcott and downing will be providing them with service!

Indeed, shame about Lennon, mind you most certainly doesn't work with Johnson as full back!

Also, if England are looking for a striker to fill the Crouch role, why not go for, oh I don't know let's be radical here... Crouch? Carroll has one or two good games and suddenly he's in the squad??? Crouch has had lots of really good games *for England* and one of the best strike rates in international football, but apparently Carroll has to go because ... er, actually I'm not sure.

It's a shame that some of these younger English players didn't have another international tournament available this summer instead, to aid their development...

I'm not going to second guess every selection because in the end it really is about 'A Team' until you see some performances on the pitch there is little to go on. Isn't Kyle injured anyway? Plus it is open to change before the tournament starts.

This is just to give the media a chance to get on Hodgsons back. Giving Hodgson a chance to play a few trumps before it all goes the usual shape. He's been there before he knows the ropes <laugh>

Not sure about Gerrard for Captain... not sure he merits selection at all on current form! Funny how many Liverpool players are in the squad (with Henderson on standby) considering their league placing... surely the players might have had something to do with that?

You see vimhawk I wouldn't want Crouch if I was managing Oldham and there you have a debate because everyone has their own view of who should or should not be in the squad.

When players like Crouch & Bent are considered good enough for England it just shows me how poor we are at football atm.

<laugh> Crouch & Bent now there is a firm of accountants I wouldn't deal with. Or perhaps I would <whistle>

Hodgson's getting his revenge on all of those Liverpool players.
He's going to pick as many as he can, blame them for ballsing up the tournament and ruin their careers.
    Possibly...

I completely agree in one sense. There is no way Crouch appears to be a footballer, or appears to contribute as much as he should... yet somehow he scored all those international goals and is ignored in favour of players that simply haven't lived up to their reputations on an international stage. A lot of this squad hardly covered itself in glory in South Africa, but now they're older apparently it will be ok.
