To face Italy: Goalkeepers: Joe Hart John Ruddy Jack Butland Defenders: Kyle Walker Phil Jagielka Steven Caulker Gary Cahill Ryan Bertrand Leighton Baines Midfielders: Alex Chamberlain James Milner Michael Carrick Jake Livermore Tom Cleverley Frank Lampard Adam Johnson Ashley Young Strikers: Andy Carroll Daniel Sturridge Jermain Defoe Theo Walcott Thoughts? Personally I think that's a pretty good squad. Nice to see some younger players given an opportunity, and I think Roy is right to leave Terry, Cole and Gerrard at home. Lampard gets a chance to prove his worth to Hodgson after missing out on Euro2012. DTLW
Well if it means Gareth Barry is left out..... I've seen Livermore a couple of times live, and I think he is a talent for sure. I don't think he is currently good enough to make the England squad for a competitive match, but this is what we should be using international friendlies for. He does the simple things very well, he sits in front of the back 4, holding the midfield and supplying the balls from the defence to the playmaker. Nothing flash, but steady.
Interesting to see Walcott listed as a striker, though that probably hasn't come from Hodgson. Overall, good to see lots of young players in there. Hope they take their chance!
I think there's a chance of the likes of Clyne getting called up with Roy in charge, moreso than when we had Fabio.
Is this a 'B' international or something? Roy wasn't lying when he said it would be an experimental squad was he? Can't get up any enthusiasm for this really, although I don't think it'll be as much as a thrashing as it was the last time we played Italy.
Anyone think Cork should have had a shot over Livermore? Cork was selected for GB before him although admittedly didn't impress that much.
