There's been a lot of talk this weekend about whether England should go back on the road and play games across the country again.

The pitch at Wembley against Slovenia was a disgrace. Dare England complain again about the condition of other countries pitches after this debacle. Allowing Wembley to be used for an American Football game just days beforehand was a joke.

The atmosphere was terrible, but, something that's seems to have crept into English football recently. The amount of empty red seats at the start of the second half, reminded me of the little playground down the road.

All in all, reasons to get out of London once and for all and give the National Team back to the People.

As for tomorrow, time to best the S cots into submission. <ok>

Can't happen, Wembley needs paid for.

Its a strange one. I like the idea of a national stadium but it hasn't really been necessary for a while. Personally I love international football and I'm patriotic. The reality is though many aren't, particularly the younger generation. It has lost its lustre for them, and they'd much rather watch the PL.

Maybe spending all that money on the stadium was stupid! Perhaps the money would have been better invested into the grass roots to produce a great national team, which would maybe have brought the fans back, thus making the whole thing more viable. Just a thought...

That's just football in general surely.

I can understand Sunderland and Newcastle fans being completely dissociated from the national team, we get enough of not being good enough to achieve at club level.

Capello once said he never went up to the North East to watch players as it was too far.

They all talk a great game, biggin' each other up. Pity they are mediocre at playing it.

I love international football and regardless of how bad England are will always follow them. The atmosphere at International games, especially away from home, is amazing. Went to the World Cup in Brazil, and even with England playing as badly as they did, the whole atmosphere was great and the England fans outstanding.

I think the atmosphere at home games would improve as well if the team toured the country but it isn't going to happen while Wembley needs paying off.

I would also do the following to improve internationals:
    1) stop friendlies
    2) replace the Euro championships with a league format played over 2 years (first division for 8 top Euro teams based on FIFA rankings, rest play in lower leagues, relegation and promotion occur). Top teams fill the World Cup places for European teams as well so you don't need to break for World Cup Qualifying.

English players don't give a **** and FIFA is completely bent.
Not a good advert for international football IMHO.
I personally dip in and out of it but generally I ain't bothered about watching it.

I think the players are put under pressure by their Premier League clubs to avoid England games which I think is wrong, but maybe if England paid their salaries while on International Duty, and automatically recompensed the clubs if they were injured it might help. I don't think the players don't give a **** - but I think they gradually get worn down by the club vs country conflict.
Don't deny that FIFA is completely bent. Was surprised to find that World Cup tickets were distributed from a poxy little office in Cheadle Hulme, near Manchester. How that company got the rights to distribute tickets and organise corporate hospitality if there was a transparent bidding process was beyond me.
However it doesn't detract from the fact that country vs country is what sport was meant for.

That's what you wanna see, some of that patriotic spirit. <ok>

C'mon you f****** heathens, if you can't get the buzz from an England v Scotland match, I think you've been dumbed down too long by Newcastle. <laugh>

Sadly Jam, I think its us three versus. Our fans and Sunderland's seem to have the least interest of any. There is this feeling that the managers aren't interested in our players. I must admit, I can't think of many occasions where either club has had players good enough to get in the squad.

Unfortunately I think you could be correct with a lot of ours and Sunderland fans.
Saying that, you can guarantee that there will be fans from both clubs in Glasgow tonight.

As for players, there's been very few worth a place in the squad, never mind the team.
A long way from the days when the Region was represented regularly.
Makes you laugh, when it gets called a 'Hotbed of Football'.

I think the game tonight is going to be surrounded by an extremely hostile attitude towards the English and almost inevitably there will be violence involved with the nationalist hotbed that is Glasgow, I watched some of the Ireland Scotland match and the Scottish players were going in very hard there, with a really whipped up atmosphere in Glasgow tonight I can visualise an England player getting badly injured and won't be surprised if there are sending offs. To call this a friendly is a real misnomer, certainly not about football but a nationalist battle surrounding a football pitch, for anyone with an English accent I think Glasgow could be a very unpleasent place to be today.

Isn't every Scotland vs England game and every other sporting event between the two? That's what is so good about them. Coming so soon after the failed independence vote should make it even more feisty.

On the topic of independence It's rather embarassing that the incoming first minister is already talking about her hope that Scotland will vote for independence within her first period of office.
When will the bitter SNP take the vote of the people and accept it? What is she planning.. a vote every year or two until the answer is the right one for her? Where do you actually draw the line?
I personally think a 'vote' every 10 years + is about right... but to insinuate it will be in the next 4 years (and presumably planned for a few years in advance of that) smacks of pure bitterness.

I have been to plenty of Rugby Internationals in Scotland, these have been some brilliant matches played without fans being segregated and alcohol freely available if required during the match, football on the other hand descends into the worst form of nationalistic hatred in these matches with a level of abuse and threat of violence that transcends any level of acceptability.
