I was thinking England are out but: Could they qualify for the knockout stages. When we were well beaten by Spurs I thought it was all over. So maybe England do have a chance?
Its definitely possible, we could do with Italy +3 goals tomorrow then if we beat Costa Rica by 2+ goals and Italy beat Uruguay we will be through. Has anyone lost their first 2 games and got far before, don't think anyone would have won it but quarters +. Still a bloody long shot though.
It's all over for me, that Uruguay side can beat that Italy side no problem at all, especially with Suarez in there. The sad thing is that with us still technically being able to qualify for the knockouts, ****er Woy will roll out the same **** again instead of letting the youngsters loose.
I don't care, the world cup is great with or without them. We certainly won't be short of entertaining football for the summer regardless.
Tbh I don't think we've played that badly and we could have had a draw in both games. I was gutted for Hodgson last night, he looked devastated. It's not over yet, I hope the doom mongers are eating their words next week . Can't see it like.
Good news for me a early England exit -all the music venues/pubs can go back to putting on live music instead of trying to compete with the live sport pubs
Agreed. Its not that unreasonable that Italy beat Costa Rica and Uruguay, and we beat Costa Rica. The biggest problem for me is the number of things that need to go our way, but when you actually look at each of the games there is absolutely no reason why things can't go out way.
Spot on Terry! Gerrard should not be picked, Glen Johnson wouldn't get a game in my Monday night 6 a side team (and we're all knocking on or over 40). Barkley makes a difference. He is direct - he is the closest thing to Walcott that we've got (and we miss Walcott) but Woy will just go with the same 11 that have failed twice in a row. I thought Henderson looked positive last night - distribution wasn't always great but he was a sight better than Gerrard and much more positive - as I said on another thread, I think Cattermole would've been better than Gerrard last night! He appeared to have nothing to give to the team. Hart - No chance with either goal (second one I suppose you could say "stand still and it hits you" but that's not exactly fair) Johnson - Yay he got an assist due to bad control and stretching to win the ball - He's **** Baines - did OK but nothing flash Jagielka - People are blaming hmi for the first goal - it was a fantastic cross and a great header - hypoer-critical IMO Cahill - Solid and possibly our best player Gerrard - **** - Couldn't pass, couldn't tackle, couldn't shoot Henderson - Good workrate and got about the pitch well - sometimes suspect distribution Sterling - Was OK on the ball but goes down far too easily Rooney - Got his goal but, until that point, I thought his touch was poor and decision making was poor Welbeck - Probably our best attacking threat but still not great Sturridge - A stiff breeze would knock him down FFS - most one footed player I've ever seen (alongside Arjen Robben) - but the thing is - if you push Sturridge on his right he doesn;t know what to do - Robben does
Anyone else also find it ironic that for years England has chronically suffered being unalbe to retain possession while every other country played that way, now the game has evolved into very counter attacking systems and we are keeping possesino.
I'd just like to address something as well. If Rooney had played like Sterling did last night, the entire country would be trying to rip his head off. Sterling played absolutely pathetic last night, he didn't do a single thing with the ball. When people suggest to play Rooney is his position, they actually mean play to Rooney's strengths rather than his number 10 role. Hodgson still didn't play to Rooney's strengths last night, instead opting to play the same wide game that has failed us so often, balls into Sturridge on the right all night long...wtf? Rooney could have had 4 last night, on another day he'd have scored one or two more. I categorically refuse to blame the players for the way we have rolled over for two teams, or the ref for not sending off Godin, all of the blame sits firmly at the feet of another failure of a manager. I can not wait for Gary Neville to take over from Hodgson.
I agree - but I think he was our most potent attacking threat but still didn't play well! Which really says it all about this "young" team!
Welbeck's got a knack of finding brilliant positions, then making the wrong choice when it matters most. I'd probably drop him in this current system. Hodgson's as predictable as they come with his team and style, Costa Rica beat Uruguay 3-1 ffs, I don't know why everybody is so confident of us beating them by 2 goals. If Hodgson doesn't grow some ****ing balls and change the team and get over his unhealthy obsession with Liverpool right now, we're going home with nil point in my opinion.
Bit ironic perhaps? A sad state of affairs if we are expecting a defeat to Costa Rica. Uruguay were a completely different side again CR. As for DW, he can't pass, can't shoot, can't dribble. After the last game against Italy he was lauded for his tcakling. For an attacker ffs!
You might find some of them go out of business. We make more money putting the football on than any band. We made 50% more putting on England Italy than when we had Public Enemy play at the venue. Its a real kick in the teeth for these business's who like mine were probably hoping the footy would get them through the quiet summer months when all the good bands are playing festivals.
Can't see the irony mate, you've lost me. As for the bit in bold, play a player out of position and you're not going to get the best out of him, Sturridge is better than Welbeck so drop Welbeck, it's that simple. Uruguay didn't have Suarez against Costa Rica, the world class in him made all the difference last night, just like Pirlo for Italy.
