How come Alan Pardew hasn't been mentioned for the position?

What he has achieved at Newcastle is remarkable. Watched his side carefully this season and he is excellent at tactics and designing formations to outmanoever the opposition. Did it again yesterday by identifying Mulumbu as WBA's linchpin and pressing him deep , turning him and breaking quickly.

Very impressed with him and whilst you've got to admire Redknap's "Keeganesque" ability to inspire, I think Pardew is much better at tactics and doing what is necessary with the resources available to get the right result.

I agree that Alan Pardew is doing a very good job @ The Toon but Redknapp is the media's choice and I think the FA will go down that route. For the record, I would like Harry as England boss

He ruled himself out early on. To much derision.

Agreed he's doing a fantastic job at Newcastle though, I just can't praise him too much on principle.

Agreed. He's doing a great job at Newcastle and would be my choice.

Pardew would be a better choice, Redknapp is going to be a more gung-ho sort but we could be sitting ducks for teams with more tactically astute management

Pardew's doing a great job at Newcastle, but he's a ****er, the football he had Charlton playing at our place was a disgrace.

I read a pretty long interview with Pardew the other day and he was saying he thinks his biggest strength as a manager is making changes on a matchday, not just subs but tactical moves that have a big impact. I think this is something England (and City for that matter) often lack. When something isn't going our way we struggle to change it, we just huff and puff. Someone like Pardew might help with this kind of thing.

I'd actually forgotten about that. Charlton back then were awful and I was delighted that they got relegated in the end. The fury that ensued after that game at the KC was actually what got me into the old BBC606. I never realised there was such a place to have a massive paddy after the game before that <laugh>

I gather Hoddle's declared an interest - heaven help us!

Sums our FA, media and society in general up, I'm afraid, that the two best coaches we have had since Sir Bobby have lost their jobs for non-footballing reasons.

I'd have Hoddle back in the blink of an eye.

I actually don't like the media clamour for Redknapp to be appointed. Firstly, I don't think he is as good as people reckon he is and I am not at ease with the thought of a sweaty sock being the main designer of our tactics, and secondly, the media are setting him up for a fall.

Pardew is a good shout but not quite yet for me. If he continues to do well for Newcastle then I'm sure every one will jump on the band wagon. I'd like pulis.

Doubt he'd leave Newcastle at this stage.

Don't rate Pardew at all. He's achieving what he should be with the squad he has got at Newcastle. He's had Ben Arfa on the bench most of the season for some strange reason, they would be higher up if he actually played him

I think he said that at age 50 he felt he was too young for the job.

Yeah, see what you mean, Sir Alex has been really lucky as well. he's only achieved what he should have with the squads he's had!

Pardew's a bit too patchy for me - good job here, bad job there.
He's due a bad one so if he took over at England we probably wouldn't qualify for the next World Cup <laugh>

He only failed at Charlton. He succeeded at Reading, West Ham and Southampton.

Not consistently though - he was sacked at West Ham. And what he did at Charlton was worthy of 3 bad jobs <yikes> <laugh>

Yeah, that Eggert Magnússon really knew how to run a football club!

I tend to look at win ratios as a guide to whether a manager has succeeded or not as all managers will eventually get the sack (unless they're from Govan!)

At Reading his win percentage was 48% (success)
At West Ham it was 41% (success)
At Charlton it was 31% (failure, but not actually that bad)
At Southampton it was 53% (success)
and at Newcastle it has been 40% (success, particularly as that includes a "first season" in the Prem.

As a guide, Peter Taylor's record with us was 42%, Phil Browns was 33%, Nigel "Judas" Pearson's was 36% and Nick Barmby's is 40%.

I agree. He did rule himself out, He said he had kids at school and if things didn't go well he didn't want them to suffer for his probable failure also he wanted his kids to be media free and being Enland manager would see that they weren't. Great Job at Newcastle I just wish they had a different owner, although he seems to have learnt the lesson.
